Cancer Care at Home
Cancer is an extremely common condition in the UK, with the NHS reporting there are hundreds of thousands of new cancer cases each year. Coming to terms with a severe condition like cancer is one of the toughest things an individual will face in their life. People affected by cancer may require day-to-day support – whether in the form of medical support, home help or personal care.
Why choose cancer home care?
Here, at Helping Hands, we believe that people with cancer should be able to receive the medical support they require without leaving their own home. Because the home is an environment in which they can be around the people they care about the most, and their own possessions which hold many sentimental memories. That’s why we provide cancer care at home.
Nursing-led home care for cancer patients
Our home care for cancer patients is tailored to individual needs and delivered by a friendly team of expert carers. We work with district nurses, Macmillan nurses, doctors, GPs, families and other healthcare organisations to ensure that the people we care for get the cancer care at home they need.
Through our close relationships with these parties, we regularly update our cancer care plans to keep up to date with the latest developments in cancer care research and most importantly to cater to the changing needs of our customers.
Expert carers supporting people with cancer
Our carers are trained to provide support for cancer patients, affected by many forms of the illness. And in our 25 years as a provider of quality home care, we’ve helped people with all forms of the disease. Our carers have not only work alongside our customers’ doctors and nurses to provide them with the best possible support but endeavour to help family and friends too. Caring for people with cancer can be difficult for family members but we will always do our best to support your family too. By providing cancer care at home for your loved one, you and your family can concentrate on spending quality time together without having to be the primary carer for your loved one.
With our cancer care plan, our carers can provide support with your medication. We can help people manage their medication, ensure it’s taken when needed, collect prescriptions from the pharmacy, apply dressings to wounds and much more. Our carers receive on-going training to ensure they are fully equipped with any medical updates and all the knowledge necessary to provide a complete cancer care service.
But our carers don’t just go into the homes of their customers to provide cancer home care for cancer patients. They can also help with basic tasks around your or your loved one’s home, such as doing the laundry, vacuuming and cooking, as well as more sensitive issues, like personal care.
Warm, friendly and keen to make a difference to the lives of our customers, a Helping Hands carer is also there to provide companionship. Many of our carers have struck up bonds with their customers over common interests – bonds which have lasted years in many cases.
Cancer home care from expert carers
Before entering the homes of their customers to provide cancer support, we put each one of our carers through rigourous training courses at our Alcester-based Centre of Excellence. Here, they learn how to provide the medical and personal support their customers require.
We understand that there’s so much to learn about the condition, so we continue to put our carers through regular training courses – to ensure they’re always well prepared to deal with the situations that might arise when caring for someone with cancer.
