Home care in East Midlands
Hello, I'm Alison the Local Care Service Manager for the East Midlands. Here is an overview about my background and my role as Local Care Services Manager at Helping Hands.
My Qualifications
RMA NVQ4 Health & Social Care, Foundation Course in Practice teaching for Social Workers, Safeguarding referrers and safeguarding train the trainer alerters, Mental Capacity Act, Huntingdons Awareness and Moving & Handling.
I have almost twelve years experience within the care sector, including working at Nottingham City Hospital, a care assistant in a residential/nursing home and working within the domiciliary homecare sector where I was a registered manager.
My experience with the over 65s
I have worked predominantly with the over 65’s whose care needs varied greatly.
I have worked with stroke patients, Parkinsons, Dementia, Alzheimers right through to palliative care. I have found the bond that I developed with both the clients and their families to be extremely rewarding, I would like to think that I was able to help enrich their lives as much as they did mine.
My experience with the under 65s
Whilst I worked with fewer younger adults, the variety of conditions that I have experience of include Multiple Sclerocis, Friedrerich’s Ataxia, Cerebral Palsy, Huntingdon’s Disease, Learning Disabilities and Mental Health. Enabling younger people to live as independently as possible is vital if we are to ensure that social isolation is eliminated.
The carers
Good carers are worth their weight in gold and can make such a difference to peoples lives.
Once a carer called me on Christmas Day to ask whether it would be alright to visit a client and take a Xmas dinner to her as she knew that she would be alone ,this was done in the carers own time and took her away from her own family ,this to me said volumes about the carer and I know it brought the biggest of smiles to the clients face. That is what caring is all about.
