Hi I'm Charlotte Thompson. You will be pleased to know that we provide Live-in Care in Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. I recently moved to Malvern and love it! I am an enthusiastic hill walker and try to go to the Malvern Hills most weekends. I also enjoy gardening, and get lots of inspiration form the gardening shows at the Three Counties Show ground
Qualifications
I have a BA (Hons) English degree and have also completed the following training courses:
- NVQ 4 in teaching adults
- NVQ 3 Health and Social Care
- Dementia Awareness Training
- Risk Assessor Training Level 2
My Experience with Elderly Care
It’s great providing older people with the best care possible: one-to-one care in their own homes which is specialised to their needs and lifestyles. Although some elements of care are very similar, and older people often like the same kind of food and television programmes, each person has different priorities and household routines so it’s important for our carers to be flexible and adapt to personal preferences. I feel that it is very important that a person retains their independence as much as possible. It can be more difficult caring for older people with dementia as the carer often needs to think for the person they are looking after, so taking the initiative prompting them to drink, eat or go to toilet. It is important to stay calm, be patient and establish a good sense of well being.
Respite care
When managing Respite Care packages it is important to give families the confidence to enjoy their holiday, knowing their family member is being looked after by a carer who is support by the Helping Hands office team, who can take care of any trivial problems is of great reassurance.
Younger with Disabilities
Managing a Younger Persons package has different challenges. Having a live-in carer allows many to continue to go to work, the carer can drive or answer their phone, or do physical tasks, enabling them to be fully functioning and in society. It is important that the carer is of same age so they can understand needs, go out with them socially and understand the feelings of customer.
Job Satisfaction
I really enjoy my role at Helping Hands, I was previously at Helping Hands for two years before taking a year out to travel. The role of a care manager is very varied as you support both the customer and the carer, you do have such a sense of responsibility as you don’t want to let anyone down. This role is so rewarding, it’s lovely to be able to help people stay at home and continue to lead the life they enjoy.
Carers
Our Carers are amazing, it is fantastic to manage a team that you admire. The carers do a really wonderful job, it is incredible how far the carers go to make customers happy and often become part of family.
About Me
I love to travel, we have a campervan and often go on mini camping adventures in beautiful places in the UK. I also enjoy cooking, reading and running with my best achievement completing the half marathon in Birmingham in 2008. I am a good team player with a positive outlook.
