Hello I’m Roz, I will be the Live-in Care Manager for the South West. I am delighted to be covering this region as I spent many family holidays camping and caravanning in Devon/Cornwall and the surrounding area, in fact I still visit the area frequently as members of my family live there. |
Qualifications
This is my first role in care. I have a customer service background with nine years in recruitment, I have great communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships. It was a combination of these skills and helping my family look after my aunt and uncle who have both been diagnosed with Alzheimers, that developed my keen interest in care and encouraged me to get involved.
In addition to my degree, I am a fully trained first aider and I am currently completing my Level One Risk Assessor Training. I have also completed training in the following areas:
- Moving and Handling Equipment
- Protection of Vulnerable Adults
- Health and Safety
- Infection Control / Incontinence Care
- Principles of Care
- Customer Service Training
Experience
The majority of my clients are over 70, with a large proportion diagnosed with Dementia, I keep in close contact with both the client and the carer to ensure that all aspects of care are considered and managed efficiently. The difference we can make to the quality of life for our clients is incredibly rewarding.
Younger Adult and Respite Care
Having worked in a special needs school, I understand what is required when working with younger adults, a great deal of patience is needed due to the frustrations the clients often experience. Also, a different care package is required due to the client being more mobile and wanting to be sociable, this requires a different type of carer and care package.
Job Satisfaction
Even though I have only been with Helping Hands a short time, the sense of job satisfaction I have is immense, it is the most rewarding role I have ever undertaken. It is fantastic to see the positive feedback we receive, it gives a real understanding of the difference we at Helping Hands make to our clients quality of life.
Carers
Our carers are incredible and we always aim for a long term match between the carer and the client. One of our carers has been in placement with the same client for over four years and is considered a member of the family.
Another example of a strong relationship between a carer and a client was when the carer assisted the client in buying a cat. The client had always loved cats but did not believe that she would be able to care for one herself. However, with the carer’s help, they now look after Beauty together and the carer has really helped to enhanced the client’s life
Our carers are really thoughtful, considerate and committed in becoming companions to our clients.
