By looking at your specific needs we can match your requirements with the skill sets and characters of our carers. It is important to us that you are totally comfortable with the carer, both personally and professionally. This means that you can have the lifestyle you choose.

Typically your live in carer will carry out any personal care tasks, such as helping you get up, washed and dressed and toileting, all at your own speed and to your own timetable. Where required, carers provide companionship, they will cook for you, to your taste of course, and undertake light housework such as cleaning and housekeeping – all to support you with your desire to remain in your own home. Many of them will be able to drive, so that outings to the shops, day centres or an occasional change of scene can be accommodated easily.  If you are keen to stay at home because of pets they will be able to care for them as well as they care for you. Most importantly, because the same carer will stay with you on an ongoing basis, you benefit from a continuity of companionship, routine and care.

We provide live-in care for many different reasons to many different types of people. These can vary from short term respite, convalescent or companionship care to more intensive packages for those with very high dependency needs. To help you identify with some of our existing clients take a look at some of our live-in case studies. We often place two carers in homes where the care requirement is more demanding, for example if there are moving and handling issues or very disturbed nights.  Sometimes, live in care is appropriate to facilitate a prompt and safe hospital discharge that can then be reduced as the person readjusts to being back home. If this is the case, our assessors are happy to come out and visit person and families in hospital before they are discharged so that an appropriate service can be agreed.

Where specialist attention and care is required we have researched and developed bespoke care training packages, a full list of topics covered is available .. This would include offering support to families where there are young children. In these instances we would ensure that the carer placed had completed the appropriate Child Protection Training.

Our live-in care service is available across the whole of England and Wales.

SO NOW YOU KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT LIVE-IN CARE INVOLVES, WHY CHOOSE HELPING HANDS AS YOUR CARING PARTNER ?

  • Our Experience

Coupled with our ability to comprehensively manage hundreds of packages of care across England and Wales is the pride we take in the personal attention to detail that a family run business brings. We have provided live-in care for over 17 years, making us one of the most established and largest providers in the country.

  • We directly employ all of our carers

What this means is that we assume all employers responsibilities such as pay, tax , insurance and liability. Over and above that we then are accountable for the regular supervision, assessment and training of all carers on an ongoing basis.  The live-in care we provide is for 7 days a week and can be for short or long term, indefinite packages.

  • Potential complications if you use a provider who does not directly employ their carers

You have to register with the Inland Revenue as an employer and handle the administration
When the carer chooses to have a  holiday or leave you have to source a replacement
Care may only be short term or for 5 days per week.
There may be times when you are left without care
Have no dedicated back up support
No guarantee as to up to date training or regular supervision and assessment.

  • We guarantee to provide cover

Should you choose Helping Hands we can guarantee that you will never be left without a carer. Breaks for carers are all scheduled in advance so that a suitable replacement can be found and a lengthy handover between the two be arranged. This often includes an overnight stay so that the full day and night routines can be understood.

  • We provide continuity of care

We do not rotate our carers on a 2 week on / 2 week off basis. Typically our carers are able to support for c. 6 weeks before they need some time off and in this instance our guarantee of cover ( as above) comes into effect with the original carer returning once rested. Having the same person in place enables a personal bond and trust to develop.

  • We offer FREE ASSESSMENTS

We do not charge for an assessment of your care needs for our ongoing packages of care. This would involve a trained assessor visiting you and your family at home and looking at the formal care requirements and any necessary equipment within the home environment.

  • Our training and backup support.

All of our care is overseen by our team of Registered General Nurses who work in conjunction with your local Care Manager. Your Care Manager will work closely with you to understand your care needs and identify suitable carers with the skill set you require . Profiles of suggested carers can be seen before making a decision. Your Care Manager is your main point of office contact with a manned emergency line available out of office hours.
We take our training responsibilities very seriously and to retain close control we have our own training company and NVQ assessment centre. Covering all induction and ongoing training we have developed an extensive portfolio of addition training for specific conditions such as dementia, stroke, learning difficulties and Multiple Sclerosis. A full list of our specialist training is available upon request.

Hourly Care

Although we specialize in the provision of live in care, Helping Hands are also able to offer less intensive care packages. It may be that a package of hourly visits is appropriate. General and personal care tasks such as dressing and overseeing medication can still be fulfilled.

This level of care is only available within certain areas of Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Warwickshire. Should you wish to check availability please call 01789 762121.

Night Care

We offer 3 levels of care support through the night. These are:

• Night Duty – awake: this service is for clients who require frequent attention during the night

• Night Duty – sitting: this service is for clients who may need some attention during the night. Staff will expect only to be called periodically during the night.

• Night Duty – sleeping: This service ensures that the client is not left alone during the night. We do ask that a bed be provided for the carer, who will be expected to sleep.
