Helping Hands Award Winning Carer Training

We are delighted to announce that our Training Manager, Julie Mills won 'The Care Trainer Award' at the Great British Care Awards. The Care Trainer Award acknowledges the importance of the trainer within the care service and looks for a person who has shown enthusiasm and determination in identifying training and development needs of care staff as well as establishing rolling training programmes. All of which contributes to ensuring that the potential carer receives the best possible training before beginning their carer as a career.
Helping Hands understands that allowing a carer into the home of a loved one takes a lot of trust and serious consideration. That is why the training and assessment of potential carers is critical before they are employed as a Helping Hands carer.
To become a Helping Hands Carer, an intensive residential training course must be undertaken and passed successfully. The training course is held over five days at our new specialist training facility at Minerva Mill Innovation Centre in Alcester, where potential recruits are continually assessed, monitored and interviewed by our recruitment team during their stay.
The training centre is just a skip away from our head office, so we are able to give all our carers that little extra bit of attention and encouragement
The new centre has been developed as quality training and the development and wellbeing of our carers is at the heart of Helping Hands and has been since the business began in 1989. It provides a number of break-out group training areas, fully fitted training kitchen, multiple mock residential areas for role play training as well as a comprehensive collection of care equipment.
This all enables our carers to get hands on experience using all the different equipment that they will come across when in placement. They will be trained and assessed on:
• Moving and Handling
• Medication
• Health, Safety and Security
• Emergency First Aid
• Infection and control.
• Effective Communication
