Carer's blog

To give you an insight into what being a live-in carer is really like we have asked a few of our carers to write a blog. This will help you understand the day to day role of a live-in carer, it will also give you the opportunity to get to know some of our live-in carers and the challenges they face along with the enjoyment and passion they all share!

Monday 21st December 2009, 15.00pm

Hi everybody

I thought I would share with you my Monday morning from a care perspective.

We take over from the night carer at 8 o’clock, our day started off by one of us organizing breakfast whilst the other starts with all the personal care needs. Our service user wears a brace so before we hoist her into her specialized chair, we have to make sure her brace is on correctly. It’s also important that she is correctly positioned in her chair – we don’t want her to be uncomfortable.

After our service user is correctly in placed in her we then put her tray on her chair and we put a bib on her. We then feed our service user her breakfast (which is thickened) and we give her, her medication and a cup of water which is also thickened. After breakfast we pack our service users bag and start getting ready as we are off out now into town, we will update you later!

Just a reminder...

As one of our Live-in Carers, you will be living with the person who needs care in their own home 7 days a week.

You will also be expected to work across England and Wales.Typically we do expect a Carer to stay 5 - 8 weeks in a placement before taking a holiday.
