About me

“I absolutely love working for Helping Hands – it’s such a fantastic company. Its core values really resonate with my own beliefs and it’s great to know how much of a difference we can make to people’s lives. Both the staff and customers are truly inspirational and I feel really lucky to work here.”

Experience and qualifications

Laura joined the Helping Hands Marketing Team in March 2019 and is based at their head office in Alcester, Warwickshire. She has a wealth of experience in marketing, having previously worked as PR Officer for both Halfords and West Midland Safari Park.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education. She has also undertaken training for autism awareness, attachment theory and crisis management in public relations.

During her time at West Midland Safari Park, Laura dealt with all aspects of public relations – from writing press releases on the latest animal birth to organising high-profile visits from famous faces such as The Jacksons. She is also experienced in creating engaging campaigns to generate national TV, radio and print coverage, and writing creative content for education marketing.

She has previously worked as a teaching assistant in a secondary school supporting students with additional needs such as autism, dyslexia and emotional & social behavioural difficulties. This then led to her obtaining a Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education, which she completed to become a secondary school English teacher.

Laura has also worked as a Support Worker with older adults and adults with additional needs. She provided housing-related support to assist paying bills, maintaining tenancies, completing forms and sustaining positive life choices for service users across Birmingham.

Whilst studying for her undergraduate degree, she spent a year working as an Assistant Psychologist with the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. During this time, she supported adults living with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and severe depression by working with a multi-disciplinary team of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, mental health nurses, occupational therapists and health care workers.

Laura has also volunteered for the Samaritans and supported many people in their time of need.

In her spare time, Laura enjoys playing netball for her local club and competes on a weekly basis. She thoroughly enjoys watching the England Roses play netball at an international level and her favourite Superleague Team is Wasps. She also has a love for wildlife and reading; her favourite author is Douglas Kennedy.
