Seven steps left to become a live-in carer:
Our values define who we are
Caring like we would for our own familyCaring like we would for our own family
We are building a different type of company, one that not only does good by looking after people and gives them independence at home, but also allows everyone who works with and for us to be the very best they can be.Here at Helping Hands, we are kind. We expect the best of all of our staff, but with patience and kindness, we allow people to make mistakes and support each other to learn from them.
Why work for Helping Hands?
What sets us apart from everyone else is that we build our foundation on kindness; we care for our customers and staff like we would our own. This is derived from our family background, where our story began over 30 years ago. Since then, we’ve been employing the very best carers in the UK and across the world to join our extended family.
FAQs
-
Does the role of a live-in carer mean I live with the customer?+
-
Yes, a live-in carer lives in the customer's home and is on-hand for the majority of each day. Most of our carers work for blocks of five to eight weeks at a time at their placements, with breaks in between.
-
Will I have my own room?+
-
Yes, we ensure that all live-in customers are able to provide a separate room for you before confirming their care. In fact, before you are assigned to a placement, an assessor will go to the customer’s home to check that it is suitable for you.
-
Do I get paid weekly or monthly?+
-
All live-in carers are paid on a monthly basis, and as you are directly employed by us, we also take care of your tax and national insurance paperwork. As an employee of Helping Hands, you are also entitled to statutory sick pay, paid annual leave and a pension scheme.
-
Will I need to complete an English test?+
-
Yes. This will be arranged with you on completion of the first face-to-face interview.
-
How do I arrange my Skilled Worker visa?+
-
Our HR team will help you organise this upon successfully completing our interviews and assessment course. They will apply for your Sponsorship number and support you in booking your biometric appointment.
-
Will I be paid in UK sterling or my local currency?+
-
You will be paid in UK sterling.
-
Do I need a UK bank account?+
-
Yes, you will require a UK bank account. We can provide you with assistance in setting this up after your visa is approved.
-
Will there be any background checks?+
-
Due to working with vulnerable adults, you will be required to provide a police check from your home country and undergo a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check before we can confirm your start date and apply for your visa.
-
I’ve never been a carer before - can I still apply to be a live-in carer?+
-
We normally require 6-12 months of care experience, but each case is different and we will be happy to hear from you if you think you have what it takes.
-
When am I able to go home and visit my family?+
-
You will accrue holidays, so will have time to go in between placements. You can organise with your live-in care manager.
-
What happens when the customer I'm caring for no longer needs care?+
-
You will be assigned to another customer and be assisted with travelling to your new placement by our team. If you are in between placements, we will support you to ensure that you are allocated rest periods in suitable accommodation before starting your next placement.
-
Will I recieve training before I start my first placement?+
-
Before coming to the UK, you will attend a 4 day assessment course held at one of our dedicated assessment centres. The assessment courses are run by our in-house assessors and will ensure you have all of the relevant skills needed to become a live-in carer with Helping Hands.
