Dementia Family Day Chipping Sodubury – Press Release

Helping Hands recognizes the challenges faced for local families living with Dementia

Recognising the strain put on family members whose loved ones are living Dementia. Leading homecare specialist Helping Hands brought their free of charge award winning training to families in Chipping Sodbury and the surrounding areas on Saturday 28th September to overwhelming success.

Hosted by Jayne Vale, the UK’s Dementia Personality of the year and their resident dementia expert, families learnt how a loved one is likely to experience living with the various forms of Dementia, and how they can help. It was also a great opportunity for families to chat to others who are in similar circumstances and to the Dementia experts.

Mrs Bradbury from Wotton-under-Edge commented: “I would like to thank all involved with the Dementia Family Day, it was a really helpful session from all perspectives; for information about the condition and how to deal with our relatives. Jane was a marvellous speaker, the venue was comfortable and convenient, refreshments very welcome, and the information pack to take away was really helpful. Thank you!”

“ Absolutely wonderful talk” Ms Makoo, Chipping Sodbury

“Excellent, I understand how Jayne won her National Dementia award” Mrs Scadding, Yate

“Total Illumination of the stages, how they live in the past to the latter stages of childhood” Ms Beacham, Yate

With over 50% of Helping Hands’ customers living with Dementia, it became evident that the quality of information given to families from healthcare professionals is inconsistent and often poor. Hence in 2012, Helping Hands formally launched their first Dementia Family Day to rave reviews and pleas to roll out the training nationwide.
