The Sunderland branch of Helping Hands hosted a two-day bake sale to raise money and awareness for charity, as part of Parkinson’s Awareness Week.
As part of a regional meeting on Thursday 15 April, Michelle Webster, Branch Manager of Helping Hands Sunderland, used the opportunity to host a bake sale to raise much-needed funds for a charity that Helping Hands are partnered with: Parkinson’s Care and Support UK. They continued the bake sale into Friday 16 April by offering treats in the reception area of their office, inviting the local community to pop in and donate to the charity.
Michelle said: “As a branch we really felt passionate about doing some fundraising to help raise awareness for people living with Parkinson’s, as it is one of many conditions close to our hearts. Ten carers and office members baked cakes and they were distributed for sale amongst our work colleagues at our regional meeting, as well as family and friends, and I am pleased to say we raised £104.10.”
Leigh Jepson, Area Care Manager, said:
“Parkinson’s touches so many of our customers and families here at Helping Hands and we wanted to raise awareness of such a good cause. We’re really pleased to be working with Parkinson’s Care and Support UK, so together, we can improve the lives of those living with Parkinson’s today, not tomorrow.”
Here at Helping Hands, we provide specialist Parkinson’s support, and with over 30 years of experience caring for over 40,000 customers, they have recently partnered with the charity to provide home care to more people living with the condition. Through the partnership, Parkinson’s Care and Support UK offer respite care to those who need it.
Helping Hands Sunderland currently supports 25 customers in the area and employs 24 local carers. From visiting to live-in care, all of our carers receive an award-winning induction course to ensure that you only receive the highest quality care, all within the comfort of your own home.
