What’s included with home care at Helping Hands?
The main features of our home care service consist of support for you in and around your home that enables you to live as independently as you wish. From helping you with the housework, getting to and from appointments and going shopping, to assistance with getting dressed, going to the toilet and washing, we’re here to provide practical and emotional support when you need it. This may start from as little as 30-minute visits throughout the week and gradually progress to hourly visits throughout the day if your symptoms or needs mean that you require additional support. We can also provide 24-hour live-in care for those who require round-the-clock support with a chronic health condition or for a couple who both need extra care.
We tailor support plans to the customer’s needs, so whatever situation you’re currently in or planning for, we’d be happy to discuss with you and find the right solution that will work for you.
Why you may need home care
Why someone may need home care may be similar to another, for example, if they both have dementia, but this doesn’t mean that their support plans should be the same. Each individual will display and deal with their symptoms in a different way, have different routines and want to live life in a way that is completely unique to them, that’s why we insist on creating a tailored support for all of our customers.
Carers for limited hour visits
For those that are perhaps elderly but have little or no underlying health conditions, or for those who are able to cope with their medical condition but just need support with domestic duties and getting to appointments, visiting care may be the solution. Designed to fit around your existing routines, we can pop in for half an hour or for several hours at a time, depending how your support plan is created. We can even stay longer if you need someone there during the night, with our overnight service lasting the full length of the night until the next morning if you become more anxious during the early hours or need help turning safely in bed.
Intermittent long-term visits
Caring for another is one of the most rewarding jobs that you could possibly do (believe us, we know!), but it’s also really important to take a break from time to time, especially if you have other commitments such as work or family. Whilst you take a step back, we can step in with respite care. We’ll meet with you both before you have some time away so that we can pick up the support plan that you’ve carefully created with your loved one in a seamless way.
Carers for immediate situations
Perhaps you’ve just been discharged from hospital after an operation, your regular caregiver is unwell or you’ve had a fall and you need urgent care at home. We can provide emergency care as soon as you need us, with our carers available to begin care as soon as 24 hours after you’ve got in touch with us. And once you’re feeling more like yourself again or your caregiver has returned, we’ll ensure you have everything you need so that you can continue with your regular routines.
Home carers in Lichfield
All of our carers in Lichfield are required to have an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check and several character references before they join us, so that we only select the very best candidates to join our team. Once recruited, they undergo an in-house training programme that focuses on the theoretical and practical knowledge they will need when out in the field. Modules includes dementia, personal care, manual handling, medication, first aid and safeguarding. And it’s not just our new recruits who receive training; we put our existing carers through regular refresher sessions so that their knowledge is always up to date and following the latest industry guidelines.
