Building up confidence with a carer in Basildon

Dennis, a customer looked after by our home care Basildon team, had spent quite a bit of time not wanting to go out much before we started care with him. He was unsteady on his feet and needed support mobilising safely in and around the house. Dennis was quite withdrawn and didn’t have the confidence to go out by himself, preferring to stay at home with his wife where he felt safe.

For several months now, his Helping Hands carers have built up a great rapport with him and have gradually encouraged Dennis to explore his local community again. Every other week, they go out for coffee and cake, lunch or for a trip around Lakeside Shopping Centre.

Dennis’ new-found confidence has meant that his wife has been able to catch up with her friends at a café next to the Basildon branch, whilst he enjoys getting out and about with the help of his carer.

Recently, he had a fantastic day out at Southend-on Sea with Susan. They spent the afternoon in the amusement arcade and taking in the sea air along the beachfront.
