When Would I Require Live-in care?
People come to Helping Hands for many different reasons, but we always treat our customers as individuals and respect their reasons for needing care. Choosing live-in care means that you are looking for a comprehensive care service that always puts you at the centre. Other reasons you may choose live-in care include:
You would like someone living in your home around the clock
You are grieving the companionship of a partner
You would appreciate help with practical and emotional tasks
Signs You May Benefit from Live-In care
Live-in care will see professional and compassionate carers coming to your home, just as with our visiting service. People choose live-in care because they would like someone in their home at all times, both to help with tasks and also for emotional support.
Physical Signs
If you’re struggling with your daily routine, you will find that live-in care takes the pressure off you to keep your home tidy. Whether vacuuming, dusting, cleaning, or sweeping, your carer can undertake housework to maintain your home’s cleanliness.
Emotional Signs
You may have anxiety, depression, or be dealing with the grief of losing a loved one. Having someone in your home or accompanying you to activities will help to lift your mood, especially if your family live some distance away from you.
Daily Living Signs
Your home is your castle, yet you may not find it as easy to navigate any more. Perhaps the stairs have become a barrier or the placement of furniture is limiting your mobility. Having someone helping you to navigate can make all the difference.
Family Limitations and Caregiver Burnout
When there are complex needs
While family support is often essential, if care needs are complex, it will usually be best to have professional care. This means that family can concentrate on spending quality time with you instead
When families have busy lives
When they are juggling various commitments, it can mean that quality time is lost and carer fatigue comes in. This can ultimately lead to burnout, which benefits no-one in the long run
When family don’t live nearby
Loved ones can sometimes be separated by great distance, so if that’s the case, who do you turn to? Live-in care can keep you safe while helping you to keep in touch, via the latest technology
What Type of Live-in care do I need?
That depends on your personal needs! We always design your package of care around you, making sure that you have the fullest support at all times. You should talk to us at your earliest convenience so that we can explain your options to you and begin building your support package.
You’ll receive a free home care assessment from your local care manager, who will explain how your support will be organised. The sooner you contact us, the sooner we can arrange for one of our fantastic live-in carers to support you at home and start your care journey.
Types of Live-In Care Services Available at Helping Hands
We offer several different types of live-in care, depending on your needs. These include:
Sleeping nights
Where you have a carer sleeping in your home overnight, because you sleep too and don’t need regular support at night
Waking nights
Where your carer is awake at night with you as you find it very hard to sleep. You would both then sleep during the day
Around the clock
If you need high levels of support 24/7 you will have more than one carer living with you, working in opposite shifts
Planning for Live-in care needs
Because your home will be our carers’ workplace, there are certain things we have to insist on to ensure that you and your carer remain safe and supported. These include:
Their own bedroom
Your live-in carer will require their own bedroom so that they can get good quality sleep and be refreshed to support you the next day. If you have two carers working opposite shifts, then it may be possible for them to share a bedroom.
A well-ordered home
If you have a lot of clutter in your home, it will present hazards to you and your carer when they are carrying out your support. We may insist on some clearing out before we can allow our carers to work in your home.
Support as agreed
Our carers are not coming into a home to be a servant. They are there to support you as agreed, not to wait on other family members. If we are supporting a couple, then of course they will work with both of you.
