Elderly companionship costs
Importance of companionship for the elderly
The NHS states, ”Older people are especially vulnerable to loneliness and social isolation and it can have a serious effect on health.”
This is why companionship plays an important role in an individual’s lifestyle. It helps promote better mental and physical health. However, it is important to note that loneliness can affect anyone regardless of age.
There are many reasons why people become lonely. This can include family moving away, death of spouses and friends or living with a complex condition like dementia. Whatever the reason, loneliness can cause a serious decline in an individual’s well-being and lead to depression.
However, companionship allows you to connect with others and avoid feeling lonely. There are plenty of ways you can receive valuable companionship. These include:
Inviting friends and family for tea
Having a chat over the phone
Making video calls
Getting involved in community classes
Having a carer
Walking the dog
Factors affecting companion costs
At Helping Hands, we understand that many factors can affect the cost of companionship care. These can include:
Type of package
Whether you choose to have a carer visit you a few times a week with visiting care or have them stay with you 24 hours a day with live-in care, this can have an impact on your costs. So, deciding on your needs and requirements is a must.
Frequency of care
Deciding on how often you need care also impacts cost. You can opt to have care from as little as 30 minutes a week right up to 24 hours a day. Or you can have short-term care with our respite care packages.
Your requirements
Depending on your specific needs and requirements, this will also impact the cost of your care package. This includes personal care, medical support, domiciliary care and of course, companionship.
Funding
Depending on your income and circumstances, you may be eligible for public funding and benefits. So, it is essential to research what funding is available to you. Your local council can conduct a financial assessment to see if you qualify for help towards your care funding.
Not a care agency
At Helping Hands, we deliver care as a private care provider. We believe in continuity of care, which means you will see the same familiar faces day in and day out. Plus, you won’t be faced with agency fees or referral costs – that’s a saving in itself.
Call out fee
With visiting care there is a call out fee charge with each visit. This is put in place to cover the carer’s travel costs. So this is something to factor in when you are taking your expenses into account.
