What is respite care?

Respite care is a short-term period of care that covers your regular carer’s break, their unexpected absence, or to support you back on your feet when you’re discharged from hospital or after a period of illness, injury or surgery. It usually lasts for a few days or a couple of weeks; however you may find you require respite care outside of this, which is where Helping Hands’ bespoke packages of care come in, as we’ll design your care to your exact requirements.

When to choose respite care

Caring for another person is one of the most rewarding things anyone can do, however it can take its toll both physically and mentally, which is why it’s essential that carers get to take regular breaks and have some time away from their caregiving duties. By being able to relax and unwind and have some time to themselves, your carer will then return to you refreshed and ready to care for you once again, with plenty of tales to tell you from when they were away. It can also benefit you to have a break from each other so that your relationship doesn’t become stale, and you’ll look forward to seeing each other even more after some time apart.

Respite care services tailored to you

Our bespoke packages of care are designed exclusively for our customers’ individual requirements, making sure that whatever you need on a daily basis is added to your personalised support plan so that you get a consistent care experience while your regular carer is away, almost as if they never left. We can have a carer with you quickly if yours has to leave suddenly too, and in an emergency situation we can usually have someone with you within 24 hours. Our dedicated carers will be able to support you with every part of your daily routine, including personal care, medication, mobility, meal preparation and housework, as well as helping you to access the community if you enjoy doing so.

Qualified respite carers in Kettering

Because we only select the very best people to become Helping Hands carers we can confidently say that they are amongst the very best you’ll find in the homecare industry. We are very particular about who we take on, as we need to know they share our ethos for delivering the best possible care to our customers in their own homes, as well as having natural qualities of compassion and empathy.

We train our carers carefully, making sure we build on their existing skills and experience and encouraging them to further develop through professional courses and promotion when they’re ready. All of this knowledge can then be applied to the care they’re giving their customers and enhance our already exemplary service. In addition, because we’re fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, you and your loved ones can have full confidence that we’ll always deliver on the high standards of care that we promise to.
