Living with dementia doesn’t have to be difficult, as long as you have the appropriate support in place. Once you’ve received a diagnosis, there will be many questions you’ll want answers to as well as concerns about the future, and while we can’t answer all of them, we can certainly put your mind at rest around eventual care needs. Dementia is a progressive condition which means it will get worse over time, so while you may not need additional support straight away it makes sense to have a plan in place for later on. Whether you’d appreciate occasional support at first or you’d like live-in care at home in Wellington straight away, we can help; and because our care is all fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and the Care Inspectorate Wales, you’ll always receive the very highest standards of support.
Some people find that they appreciate additional support early in their dementia journey, perhaps because their memory is affected, and it is making their daily life more difficult to manage. Others however are able to remain fairly self-sufficient, perhaps with some caregiving from family and friends, before they decide to seek professional care. Regardless of your circumstances though, we will work closely with you to build your package of care and make sure you remain as independent as possible for as long as possible.
We only provide person-centred care at Helping Hands, built around you and the way you like to spend your days. We believe that care is best delivered in your own home, especially when you’re living with dementia, because remaining in familiar and comfortable surroundings will help to reduce anxiety and confusion that can be present with dementia. Because we’ve been supporting people to live well with dementia since we were established in 1989, we are considered one of the UK’s dementia expert home care providers, and that’s something that means a lot to us.
Our carers are very special people who share our passion for delivering the very highest standards of care to our customers. This doesn’t happen by accident though; we carefully select the people who join us so that we can be sure of their personal qualities of compassion and kindness. We also ensure that our carers have all the skills they’ll need to support our customers with confidence, providing core material via our own in-house training academy, with a focus on supporting people living with dementia. We also encourage our carers to undertake further training and development if they’re keen, and we always promote from within whenever possible. We also have our own team of clinical nurses who work for Helping Hands and manage all of our more complex packages of care and support.
