Happy ever after – Derek and Joyce’s story

Derek and Joyce Trigwell are cared for by the Coventry branch and have recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary.

In 1951, Derek was stationed at RAF Swanton Morley in East Dereham. He arrived home on Friday evening, ready for their wedding the next day. Now that’s commitment!

Joyce said her mother prepared all the food for the wedding reception, but as the food was still rationed, guests were bringing tins of fruit and bags of tea with them! The day was a beautiful sunny day, and the couple celebrated their honeymoon on the seaside in Paignton.

On their anniversary, the care team showered the couple with cards and flowers, which they were thrilled to receive. Later in the day, they were joined by their two daughters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

So what’s the secret, Joyce and Derek? Patience and a sense of humour.
