Julie, a carer at the Swindon branch of Helping Hands, supports a young lady called Kirsty, who has autism. Kirsty’s favourite band is Take That, and when they went on tour earlier this year, she was desperate to go and see them. This is where her carer Julie stepped in; she accompanied Kirsty to the concert in Milton Keynes and they spent the evening singing along to some of the bands’ greatest hits.

Both of them had an absolutely fantastic evening, and although Julie is Kirsty’s carer, she doesn’t tend to wear her uniform if she goes out and about with Kirsty. This means a lot to Kirsty, who is supported by Julie on a weekly basis. She likes the fact that her visits are personalised to her so that she can continue to live life the way she wants to, just with a little extra support from Julie.
