Emergency Respite Care – Planning for the Unexpected

What Is Emergency Respite Care?

Sometimes emergency respite care is needed because you or a loved one is unexpectedly faced with an unanticipated care situation. This can happen for various reasons, for instance, if family carers need some time out and want to ensure care continues uninterrupted or because a professional carer is taken ill. It may also be due to a fall or other accident that requires a higher level of care for a short period.

When you need emergency respite care, you should come straight to Helping Hands. This is because we have decades of experience supporting people in their own homes, whether they have low-level frailties or a complex health condition. We can offer emergency respite care within 24 hours in some circumstances, usually for a minimum of seven days, but we will discuss this with you when you get in touch.

Why Emergency Planning Is Essential for Carers

Emergency planning is essential when you care for a loved one yourself, in case there are circumstances arise that are out of your control. That’s why having a carer directly employed by Helping Hands is the best way forward, as we’ll handle everything for you if your circumstances change.

Reducing Stress During Crisis Situations

The stress involved in trying to get care in place quickly can be overwhelming. Knowing there’s an experienced and well-trusted company available in an emergency is reassuring for anyone who needs additional support at short notice.

Ensuring Continuity of Care for Loved Ones

You need to know that the care you, or an existing professional carer, give to your loved one can continue seamlessly and uninterrupted. We have 155 local care branches across England and Wales, ready to help you.

Avoiding Last-Minute Decisions and Risks

Having to take any care you can at short notice leaves the person being cared for vulnerable. Instead, they deserve to be looked after by knowledgeable, vetted carers from a company fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and CIW.

Cost of Emergency Respite Care

The costs of emergency respite care vary depending on the complexity of your care needs and location. We’ll devise you a personalised quote so that you’ll always know just how much you’re paying. As a rule though, our care prices begin at the following:

Tips for Creating an Emergency Respite Care Plan

Your local care team will create your emergency respite care plan after assessing your needs. They’ll come to your home and check that everything is in place for either your visiting or live-in care package to be carried out effectively. This can include seeing that your home is an appropriate place for our carers to work and that they have the space and equipment necessary to carry out their role efficiently and safely. They will also want to ensure that your daily routine can continue as unchanged as possible and that your independence is prioritised at all times.

We work hard to make sure that you get to live the way you wish to in the comfort and familiar surroundings of your beloved home, which is why we spend so much time making sure you’re happy with your care plan.
