How to comfortably transition from home care to live-in care

How To Comfortably Transition From Home Care to Live-in Care

Intermittent visiting care, also called domiciliary care or just home care, offers the support you want at a time to suit your routine. This could be once a week to give family a break, several times a day, or overnight. But what if it has become clear that the time in-between your care visits also needs to be covered? It may be more seamless, comforting, or cost-efficient for you to move over to live-in care rather than continue to have increasing intermittent visits, as you can then have the same carer living in your home with you, offering around the clock support. You’ll still get the same support with your daily care routine, such as meal preparation, personal care, medication and mobility support, however you’ll also receive constant companionship and the reassurance of knowing you’re never alone at home.

What are The Advantages of Switching to Live-in Care?

If you are currently receiving intermittent or visiting care at home and you don’t want different carers coming to you, or you have the same carer but don’t want to be left alone in between visits, live-in care may work out better for you. This is because you’ll:

Retain your independence

Your live-in carer will assist you to live as independently and comfortably as possible at home

Increase your confidence

You’ll feel more able to attempt different tasks at home with your live-in carer by your side

Have support with your daily routine

Whether it’s housework, personal care, laundry, preparing meals, or something else

Have time to explore the local community

Your live-in carer will help you to visit places of interest, appointments and activities

Have someone to go on holiday with

If you would like to travel but you’re concerned how you’ll manage, your live-in carer can go too

Save money

Live-in care can work out cheaper than having continuous visiting home care calls, especially for two people, depending on your needs and health conditions

How Can I Prepare For the Transition?

Your care plan will be in place

You will have been fully assessed by us prior to your care commencing

Your carer will arrive on time

– They’ll be there when you need them so that your care is consistent

Peace of mind for you and family

Knowing you’re never alone at home will be reassuring for both you and your loved ones

Flexibility for change when needed

Our care is flexible enough to change as your needs do

How To Prepare Your Home for A Live in Carer

There are several things that will need to be in place before your live-in carer can arrive, but don’t worry as we will talk to you about any changes you’ll need to make. We’ll help you prepare to accommodate your live-in carer(s) so that everything is ready when they arrive, and you can just focus on being looked after! These include:

companionship
A spare bedroom

Your live-in carer will require a room of their own so that they feel at home in your home

Meal allowance

Whether you eat together or separately, your carer will need to have their meals covered

Carer breaks

Live-in carers are entitled to breaks every day, which can be covered by visiting carers or your family

Time off

Just like visiting carers, live-in carers accrue paid holidays which can be covered by another carer

How Our CQC Accredited Carers Can Help

Both our visiting and live-in care services are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW), meaning you and your loved ones can be completely confident that we’ll deliver what we promise to. Our live-in carers join us from the UK and all over the world, to care for people in their own homes and ensure they remain as independent as possible. There is a misconception that once visiting care is no longer viable, the only option is a residential home, but nothing could be further from the truth. Continuing to live at home is fundamental to some people’s happiness and our fully flexible care at home bends to accommodate you, not the other way around. We build on our carers’ existing experience when they join us, and we have our very own training academy where everyone follows a bespoke programme of instruction. This ensures that our carers are knowledgeable and able to support you with anything you need.
