Celebrate Mum this Mother's Day

Mother's Day could be the perfect time to begin the conversation about extra support with Mum.

With Spring finally blossoming in the UK, Mother’s Day is right around the corner – a wonderful opportunity to celebrate your Mum and remind her just how much she means to you. It’s the perfect time to spend quality time together, enjoy each other’s company, and to gently check in and see how she’s doing day to day.

As your Mum get older, it’s natural for her needs to change a little, and sometimes a small amount of extra support can make a big difference. Starting a caring and open conversation about arranging future support can feel like a big step, but it can also be a positive one that could help your Mum to have everything she needs to keep living happily and confidently.

With 35 years’ experience and over 155 branches across England and Wales, Helping Hands are perfectly placed to provide Mum with compassionate, person-centred support in the home she loves.

We’ve put together a digital guide to help you approach the subject of additional support with family members.

How can we help Mum around the home?

There’s a common misconception that asking for a little extra support means losing independence, when in reality it can help someone hold on to it for longer. Sometimes, just a small amount of help during the week can make a wonderful difference to Mum’s confidence, wellbeing, and ability to continue enjoying life in the way she always has. We often find that those who feel unsure about accepting support at first soon discover how reassuring and uplifting it can be, helping them feel more comfortable, confident, and supported in their day-to-day life.

Looking after pets

If Mum has a pet that needs feeding or walking, an extra pair of hands can help her to take care of them and continue enjoying their company

Our home care services

We can help Mum at home with one-to-one personal attention, from 30 minutes a week to up to several visits a day with a visiting support plan. Or, we can arrange to have a live-in assistant living with her at home to provide 24-hour support whenever she needs us. Our respite care is for short-term, temporary support that allows you to put your feet up while we take the reins.
