Lifestyle support from Helping Hands

Lifestyle support, or help at home, gives you extra help with a range of tasks that you may be finding more difficult. This could be due to a pre-existing condition, age-related frailties, or just because you would appreciate some companionship from time to time. It’s beneficial because it helps you to remain in the home you love by promoting your independence. By helping with the problematic everyday tasks such as shopping, housework, and laundry, you remain comfortable at home, enjoying the lifestyle you always have. In addition, our lifestyle assistants can help you to access and enjoy your local community, just as you always used to.

Support tailored to your needs

Whether you need someone to pop in once or twice a week, for a chat over a cuppa, support you to your regular lunch club, or give your carpets a good vacuuming, chat to Helping Hands about our tailored support packages. Your care will be built around your exact needs, whether that’s an hour here and there, or around-the-clock support. Your care assistant will come to your home and help you with practical tasks, as well as giving your emotional wellbeing a boost with a friendly greeting and cosy chat.

What kind of support is available?

Our support covers every aspect of your daily life, whether that’s practical, personal, or emotional. Perhaps you want to attend church but can’t manage on your own? One of our carers will accompany you and ensure you get safely settled at home afterwards. Maybe you’d like to take a holiday, or you’re happy just sitting in your beloved garden? Regardless of how you want to spend your days, our compassionate carers will be there for you.

Domestic support

You may be very houseproud and find it distressing that you’re no longer able to lift the vacuum cleaner. Don’t become despondent that your house isn’t as you’ve always kept it, ask for help from your local Helping Hands branch team. They will be all too happy to undertake your housework tasks, such as dusting or emptying bins, giving your kitchen a good clean, or preparing a nutritious meal.

Laundry services

Changing and laundering bedclothes can be an arduous task, especially if you have health conditions that restrict your mobility or dexterity. Letting one of our care assistants do this and other laundry services for you means you can rest easy in clean bedclothes or freshly laundered garments without worrying about how you’ll manage to do it yourself.

Personal support

Our carers are amazing at what they do – providing personal support every day for thousands of our customers across England and Wales. There are many different elements to personal support such as showering, bathing, washing hair, and continence care, and depending on your condition you may need more or less help.

How we can help

We can offer you support with every element of your daily routine, whether that involves care, help, or just a friendly chat. Our carers have exceptional skills in administering your medication, carrying out your personal care, undertaking housework, preparing nutritious meals, and helping you to remain mobile, amongst other things, and they will also go out of their way to make sure you are kept as comfortable as possible at home. Your mental wellbeing is just as important to us as your physical, and we will work hard to keep you entertained and happy every single day.

Independent lifestyle support services

If you enjoy making the most of all your local community offers you and want to keep doing so, your carer will happily accompany you to fitness classes, hospital visits, shopping trips, outings, and more. If you’ve always been an active person but would appreciate someone going with you on your regular trips for coffee and cake, you only have to ask!

What is the difference between lifestyle support and companionship care?

Not a huge amount, is the honest answer. Lifestyle support may be more for people who are still reasonably active and would appreciate someone helping them make the most of their local community environment, whereas companionship care will more likely take place in the person’s own home, but there are parallels. Both focus on a person’s emotional wellbeing – encouraging them to undertake activities and enjoy their days, while providing essential company. You may have a condition that is managed right now but you know will eventually deteriorate, eventually leading to a higher care need. Lifestyle support and companionship care are both exactly what you want them to be – services built around you that always keep you at the centre of your own care journey. So whether you want someone to enjoy a leisurely stroll with you or give the house a spring clean, we can help.
