At Helping Hands, we are proud to have been supporting our customers to live independently in their own homes since 1989. Since then we have cared for thousands of people who wanted to stay in the place they love best, so why not give us a call today and discover how we could be supporting you or your loved ones in the Lewes area? We’re fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales and we are a founder member of the UK Home Care Association, so you know you’ll be in good hands with Helping Hands.
We care for people all across Lewes, including Wallands Park, South Malling, Southerham, Offham, Kingston, Swanborough and the surrounding areas.
Famous for being the largest November the fifth celebration in the world, Lewes Bonfire Night draws crowds of 80,000 spectators each year and has up to 5,000 participants. At the other end of the historic spectrum is the annual Pea throwing championship, so there really is something for everyone in this hilly, but pretty Sussex town. Adding to the attractions, Helping Hands counts Lewes amongst its most recent locations, but despite being relative newcomers to the area, we have been supporting people to live comfortably and independently throughout Sussex and beyond for over 30 years.
We offer two different types of home care to our customers, visiting care and live-in care. Both characterised by their descriptive names, visiting is where one of our compassionate carers will come to your home at prearranged times and carry out your entire care needs, before moving on to support another customer in the area. Live-in care, as it suggests, is where our carer will actually reside in your home with you, providing extra reassurance for both you and your loved ones.

I’m incredibly dedicated to my role and for ensuring the highest standards of care within our local community."

Visiting home care from Helping Hands can be as often or infrequent as your needs dictate, and with visits starting from just 30 minutes a week, you can be sure we can support you regardless of your condition. Our carers are compassionate and professional and will be able to support you with housework, laundry, personal care, meal preparation, mobility support, medication administration and much more.
Live-in care from the team in Lewes means you still get the highest standards of care that you’d receive from our visiting service, yet your carer lives in your home with you, providing around the clock companionship as well as care. This ensures that you are never alone in your home but doesn’t mean that your carer will be under your feet all day! They will be as discreet as you want them to be, giving you plenty of time for solitude or keeping you company as much as you wish.
Traditional home care agencies often require their carers to be self-employed and demand introductory fees from their customers to match you with the carer in question. Helping Hands is not an agency and therefore all our carers are directly employed by us, meaning neither of you have to worry about employment legalities or ‘finder’s fees’. We take care of everything, meaning that your carer can just focus on the important thing: taking care of you.
When living with dementia it can be important to discuss future care needs, even if they aren’t yet necessary. This is because when you eventually do need care, you may have less ability to actively discuss how you would like to be looked after when the time comes. Dementia care from Helping Hands means that you will be cared for by a company considered dementia specialists in the industry, with over 30 years’ experience caring for people living with various different types of dementia.
Respite care is often necessary when you are being discharged early from hospital, you’ve had an accident, or your regular carer needs to take time off. Traditionally, respite care suggested having to move into a care home for the short-term but that’s unnecessary; you can receive respite care in the comforting surroundings of your own home without you needing to go anywhere. You can receive respite care on a visiting or live-in basis and costs are competitive for daily rates of care.
As we age, we often slow down, finding tasks that we used to complete with ease a little more difficult, or perhaps impossible. Elderly care means that one of our carers will help you with the necessities of running your home or helping you to attend appointments or activities outside of your home. We can be there for everything that will help to make your day-to-day life that bit more enjoyable. Whether vacuuming your carpets or helping you to shower, our carers can support you in any way you need.
Our carers are at the very heart of our business and we’re sure you’ll agree once you’re being cared for them. Our fully managed service ensures that our carers and our customers are always looked after properly, ensuring motivated carers who feel valued in their work and satisfied customers who look forward to seeing their carer’s smiling face every morning. We rigorously train our carers to ensure they can fully support our customers’ needs and we continue their professional development throughout their career with Helping Hands. We are accredited by the Dementia Action Alliance, were a founding member of the UK Home Care Association and are fully regulated by the CQC and CIW. Therefore, you can be confident that you’re being cared for by a company who delivers excellence every time.
