What is respite care?

Respite care is needed when your regular carer cannot be with you for a period of time, due to a scheduled holiday or because they have been taken ill. You may also require care for a short amount of time, such as when you’re recovering from an illness, accident or hospital discharge, to get you back on your feet. Respite care was always traditionally given in care homes, meaning you had to uproot yourself to an unfamiliar place to be looked after, however more and more people are now choosing to remain in their own homes to receive their respite care, and it’s no exception in the Newbury area.

When to choose respite care

Being left without care when you’re at your most vulnerable is a situation that no one wants to happen, however, if your carer was taken ill or had a family emergency that’s the reality you could be left with. Caring for another person is incredibly rewarding but can take its toll on a person’s physical and emotional wellbeing, so it’s vital they get to take regular time off from their caregiving duties to recharge their energy. This means they’ll return to you refreshed and ready to undertake your care once again. We can provide respite care on either a visiting care or live-in care basis, so you can be confident that we’ll design a package of care perfect for you.

Respite care services tailored to you

Our incredible carers will deliver your respite care in the most compassionate and empathetic manner, ensuring that you get to live as close to the life you want as possible in your own home. Our bespoke care packages will mean that your care is designed around you – there’s no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to the way we deliver home care.

Whether you want to remain at home while your carer takes a well-earned break, you are going on a holiday and need support while you’re away, or perhaps your family are the ones who normally take care of you but need some time to themselves, we can help. Your personalised support plan will contain every aspect of how you like to live your life, along with the tasks your carer will do for you, including personal care, medication, housework and helping you to access the community.

Qualified respite carers in Newbury

Our carers are unlike any others – we believe they’re the most compassionate in the industry and judging by the wonderful reviews we receive from our customers and their families, so do you. We carefully select the carers who come to us so that we can be sure that only people who share our ethos for delivering the highest quality care are working for Helping Hands.

All of our carers undergo extensive background checks, including Disclosure and Barring Service screening, and we train them carefully so that they can build on their existing skills and knowledge and apply that to their customers’ care. In addition, you and your loved ones can be sure of our commitment to the highest standards of care every day because of our full regulation by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales.
