Meet Debbie, our Branch Manager

Debbie Carmichael

"Hi, I’m Debbie. I am from South Africa and have lived in the UK for 10 years. I am in the most fortunate position to be surrounded with the most caring, loving and hard-working office and care team, who all go above and beyond to meet our customers’ needs. Here at Helping Hands, we like to be known as the care team that goes the extra mile to ensure the client has an experience with us, rather than just a care call. Our care is person centred, delivered with utmost dignity and respect. I am passionate about people, relationships and firmly believe that teamwork is the key to the success of our branch."

Regular home care visits in and around Dunstable & Luton

With over 30 years’ experience in the home care industry, we understand what it takes to provide person-centred care without compromising your independence. The team will adapt around your preferences and requirements – whether that’s popping in once a week to help you keep your house clean or calling several times a day to help administer your medication and make a cup of tea.

Offering care for a variety of conditions such as Parkinson’s, multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy and complex neurological and spinal injuries – our expert carers look after anyone from age 18 all the way up to 100 and beyond. Delivering care in a flexible, efficient and friendly manner, the team will cater to you and tailor your package of care to suit you.

And being a carer doesn’t just mean looking after your practical needs; care from Helping Hands also accommodates your mental wellbeing too. So, if you have a passion for animals and want to take a trip to Whipsnade Zoo, then we’ll accompany you and make sure you have an amazing day out spotting lions, tigers and giraffes.

The extraordinary lengths that you and your fellow management staff/carers went to to make their final days as comfortable as possible, and to ensure that I had ample support at a difficult time, is something that I will never forget. Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful care and support.

Live-in care that provides peace of mind

When you’re considering your care options, it can be quite a daunting prospect, especially if you don’t want to leave your home. And with live-in care from Helping Hands, you don’t have to. We can arrange for a live-in carer to be there for you when you need it most – whether you’re a young person living with an acquired brain injury or in your senior years living with advanced Alzheimer’s.

The great thing about live-in care is that we’ll work with you to decide on the perfect carer for you. If you’re a retired seamstress or tailor, then we’ll do our best to find someone who’s worked in the fashion industry or has a love for clothes.

As well as having someone on hand round-the-clock, live-in care also allows you to keep your existing routines with your social circles, family and life choices. If you need extra support to attend a family celebration or go on a shopping trip to The Mall in Luton, we’ll be there every step of the way.

Domiciliary care that allows you to retain your independence

Domiciliary care puts you back in control of your care in the comfort of your own surroundings, without having to adhere to strict timetables. Even if it’s just an extra pair of hands to help you plant new seedlings in the spring or assistance getting to and from the shops – domiciliary care is tailored entirely around you.

Seeing a familiar face every day or once a week can really help with your emotional wellbeing and can also be a great source of companionship. With visits starting from as little as 30 minutes per week, we’ll meet with you to arrange a care plan perfectly suited to you.

Specialist dementia care

Dementia presents itself in a variety of different ways and as a dementia specialist, we’re equipped to help you deal with this unsettling condition – whether that’s Pick’s disease, frontotemporal dementia or Alzheimer’s. As well as supporting you with the challenging symptoms and changes in behaviour that can accompany some types of the condition, we’ll also be there for you and your family, providing reassurance and professional care.

Being diagnosed with dementia doesn’t mean that you have to give up all that is dear to you, including the home that you have lived in and loved for years. Home care allows you to stay in familiar surroundings whilst receiving care that it built entirely around you.

Elderly care for you or your loved ones

Just because you’ve reached your senior years, it doesn’t mean you have to give up your favourite hobbies, pets or even your home. With elderly care from the team, we’ll keep you in the place you know and love and where you feel most comfortable – your home.

With support from a team of clinical nurses, we’re able to support you with more complex care conditions that include stoma and catheter management, PEG feeding or stroke aftercare. Not only will you receive assistance from our dedicated carers, but you’ll also build up a rapport with them and be able to look forward to the same friendly face for your care visits.

Respite care for short-term breaks

Being a full-time carer is a huge commitment and when you need a break from time-to-time, you can rest assured that we will provide excellent care for your loved one. Before you take time for some well-earned rest and recuperation, we’ll work with both of you to ensure everything fits in with your current care routines.

We understand how quickly care needs can sometimes arise, particularly if your regular carer needs to tend to an emergency or you’re being discharged from hospital and need extra support at home. The team will aim to swiftly provide care that caters for all of your needs – sometimes within 24 hours of your initial enquiry. We pride ourselves on being able to put high quality care into place that suits you, that won’t intrude, encroach or meddle with your existing routine.
