What is respite care?

Respite care is a short-term package of care, usually provided by a different person to your regular care. This is so that your usual carer can take a break from their duties and you also get to experience how things are with someone different taking care of you. Traditionally, respite care was provided in day centres, hospitals or care homes, but these days many more people prefer to stay in their own homes for respite care, surrounded by familiar memories and with people and pets they love nearby. Sometimes, emergency care can be needed due to carer sickness or an unexpected discharge from hospital for instance, but in those stressful circumstances Helping Hands can have a carer to you within hours, providing reassurance for both you and your loved ones.

When to choose respite care

When your carer is in need of a well-earned break it’s important that they get to take it, so that they remain in peak physical and emotional health and get a chance to rest, relax and be refreshed. It’s also important that you are happy with the arrangements made in their absence, after all it’s you who’s going to be cared for by someone different. It’s very important that you’re satisfied with whoever comes to care for you and that everything fits in with your current care routines, whether that care is delivered on a visiting care, or around the clock live-in care in Luton basis.

Qualified respite carers in Luton

Our carers in Luton have been carefully chosen to ensure that they share our ethos for providing the highest quality care and keeping our customers safe at home at all times. We choose our carers carefully as we want to be sure they have natural qualities of compassion and kindness and will always put their customers’ wellbeing at the forefront of their duties. They want to keep you safe at home, but we also consider that the most important part of our duty of care to you, so to achieve that we screen all of our carers through the Disclosure and Barring Service and thoroughly check their backgrounds before they are able to enter your home. We train our carers carefully so that they can build on their existing skills and experience and make sure they have opportunities to develop as often as possible. Finally, because we’re fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, you can be confident that the consistently high standards of care that we promise will always be delivered.
