What is respite care?

Respite care may be necessary for a few days or a few weeks, however it is always a temporary period of cover, provided by a different carer than your usual one. Most commonly it is provided so that your regular carer can take a holiday, however it can also be due to a hospital discharge, an illness or recovering from surgery and giving you extra support when you don’t normally have a care at all. It is sensible to seek additional support to get you back on your feet at home when your wellbeing has been compromised, and thanks to our compassionate carers you’ll soon feel back to your old self again.

When to choose respite care

There are many different circumstances when you may need to choose respite care for you or a loved one, although the most common is usually to give your established carer a well-earned break. However, it could be that your family are going on holiday and are unable to care for you while they’re away, or perhaps you’re going with them and would like a carer to accompany you so you can all relax and rejuvenate. It may be that you’re recovering from a hospital stay, an accident or illness and you’d like some extra support while you get back to full strength. Respite care is a great solution when you need temporary care for a few days or a little longer.

Respite care services tailored to you

Caring for another person is very rewarding but can also be exhausting, which is why it’s vital your carer gets to take a proper break from time to time. You may worry that your care won’t continue as it always has while someone else takes over, however with Helping Hands we tailor you package of care to your exact requirements, to ensure that everything carries on just as you like it while your regular carer is away. Your care in Melbourne will be accompanied by a personalised support plan and whether you choose visiting care or live-in care, you’ll always have excellent levels of support with tasks such as your personal care, medication, mobility and housework. Your carer can also help you to access the community if that’s something you enjoy, and even if you need us in an emergency, we can usually have a carer with you in under 24 hours.

Qualified respite carers in Melbourne

Our carers are dedicated to ensuring that you get to live your best quality of life safely and comfortably at home, and we ensure this by only selecting the most compassionate people to become Helping Hands carers. We then train them carefully so that they can build on their existing skills and experience and apply what they learn to caring for you exactly as you wish. We focus on your safety too by thoroughly checking our carers’ backgrounds and making sure they’re screened through the DBS before they’re able to come into your home, meaning additional reassurance for you and your loved ones at all times. We are also fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, meaning that our high standards of care delivery will always be maintained.
