Wickford is based in South Essex and the name means ‘a sheep farm on a river crossing’. This is because the town is surrounded by two rivers, the River Crouch and another flowing at the south of River Crouch. It is home to Tollesbury Wick Nature Reserve, which boasts a diverse range of wildlife, including Clouded Yellow butterflies, Brent Geese and Marsh Harriers. The coastal views from the reservoir are truly majestic too.
