Respite care in Crawley

Crawley respite support from Helping Hands

When your regular carer needs to take a break or your family want to take a holiday, don’t presume you’ll have to leave your home for respite care. Helping Hands’ friendly and efficient Crawley care team can come to your home and provide your full care package, so if you’ve been ill recently, or you’re recovering from a fall and you’d appreciate some extra help at home until you’re back on your feet, we can help.

What is respite care?

Respite care is offered on a short-term basis, often for a week or two, so that your regular carer can get a well-deserved break. It’s important for both you and your carer to take some time out from each other from time to time, as you will both then return to the relationship refreshed and with a renewed energy for spending time together again, especially if they live with you. Respite care can be planned, or it can sometimes be needed in an emergency if the need for care was unexpected. This can be when your carer has to leave unexpectedly, perhaps because they’re taken ill, you’re discharged from hospital quickly or you’re recovering from an illness or accident and need some short-term care to get back on your feet.

When to choose respite care

Caring for others is a rewarding but often exhausting situation, and it can be emotionally draining as well. That’s why it’s so important for carers to take regular breaks away from the situation, so that they can return to caring for the person refreshed, relaxed and ready to cope. It’ll benefit you both to have a change of face come to care for you for a while, but unless your carer can be sure you’ll be properly cared for while they’re away, the break won’t do them any good at all. With Helping Hands, our Crawley respite carers will offer a continuity of care that will make it seem as if your regular carer has never left. This is achieved through a fully managed, bespoke package of care and a personalised support plan that will detail your needs and ensure your routines are followed closely.

Respite care services tailored to you

When you choose respite care at home you’ll have carers come to you on either a visiting care or live-in care basis, meaning regular pre-planned calls as often as you need, or a carer actually residing in your home with you. Depending on the complexity of your needs, you may be happy with a carer coming at various times of the day to support you with key parts of your routine, such as getting up and eating meals, or you and your loved ones may prefer the reassurance of someone being with you around the clock, knowing that you’re never alone at home throughout the day and overnight. Our carers can support with every aspect of your routine, including medication, mobility, personal care, meal preparation, attending appointments, activities and days out, housework and so much more.

Qualified respite carers in Crawley

We only recruit and select the most suitable people to be Helping Hands carers and only those who demonstrate the highest levels of natural empathy, compassion and patience will make the grade for us. Before they meet any of their customers, our carers will undertake comprehensive training and be DBS screened to ensure that only those who are suitable to be in your home can be. Carers also have the opportunity to refresh their skills regularly and to take part in professional development, as we believe in looking after our employees as well as they look after our customers. We’re also fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, so you can have full confidence in our ability to deliver the high standards of care that we promise to.
