Visiting care and home care in Heywood
Considered a jewel in the crown of the Greater Manchester area, the town of Heywood was built up in the 19th century around the area known as Heap Bridge. As the railway became established in the period it brought many Irish construction workers to the area and their accents would make people think they were calling it ‘Ape Bridge’. This is how the town ended up with its rather distinctive nickname of ‘Monkey Town’.
