Visiting care and home care in Heywood

Considered a jewel in the crown of the Greater Manchester area, the town of Heywood was built up in the 19th century around the area known as Heap Bridge. As the railway became established in the period it brought many Irish construction workers to the area and their accents would make people think they were calling it ‘Ape Bridge’. This is how the town ended up with its rather distinctive nickname of ‘Monkey Town’.

Helping Hands are all about tradition as we’ve an impressive heritage behind our own name. Established in 1989 to support people who wanted to remain as independent as possible in their own homes, we’ve spent the last four decades doing just that. Because we manage all of our customers’ care packages ourselves and all of our visiting and live-in care services are fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, you and your loved ones will always be confident in the care we’re delivering.

High quality home care in Heywood

Our care packages are designed exclusively for our customers’ needs, which is why you won’t find two the same. We see all our customers as individuals and believe in person-centred care for everyone, which is why we have so many five-star reviews on Trustpilot from satisfied customers and their loved ones. We are proud of our care delivery as ever since we were established we’ve held the same values for promoting independence dear to us. No matter what you need at home or in the community, we can help.

    24/7 live in care support

Live-in care builds on the amazing support that our visiting carers provide, providing another level of outstanding support for our precious customers. By living in your home with you, your carer provides constant companionship and the reassurance that you’re never left alone, which also gives your loved ones peace of mind. We design all of our care packages around your exact needs, so whether you have complex care requirements or you’d just appreciate someone being in the house around the clock, live-in care will give you exactly what you need.

Why Helping Hands is better than a care agency in Heywood

While we’re not criticising care agencies as they fulfil a role in care provision, we’re not a care agency and never have been. We’re a private home care company and proud to be so, as our fully regulated services are of the very highest quality and always have been. This matters because some agencies will only ‘introduce’ you to a carer, charge you a fee for doing so and then expect you to manage everything else yourself. We don’t do that – we manage every aspect of your care journey from the very first time you contact us.

Qualified carers providing a variety of care services in Heywood

Our carers are amazing – and that’s not just us saying that, it’s the positive reviews that we get sent every day telling us so. We want our carers to be happy and motivated in their work but also to feel valued, which is why we give them opportunities to develop their careers and build on their knowledge and skills. We also offer higher than average salaries, plenty of perks, and the chance to gain qualifications if they wish. We champion our carers because they look after our customers so well, and we’re proud that so many of our managers began their careers as carers with us.

    FAQs

Home care in Heywood is professional support provided in your own home, helping you or a loved one stay safe, comfortable and independent without needing to move into residential care. It can be arranged as regular visiting care, occasional support, respite care, or full-time live-in care, depending on your needs.

With Helping Hands, care is built around your routine, so support can include anything from help getting up in the morning to companionship, meal preparation, medication prompts, mobility support and personal care.

Home care can include a wide range of practical, personal and emotional support. This may include help with washing, dressing, toileting, medication prompts, preparing meals, light housework, shopping, attending appointments, mobility support and companionship.

Care can be flexible, from short visits during the week to several visits a day or live-in care. The right level of support will depend on your needs, routines and preferences.

A carer can help with everyday tasks that have become difficult to manage alone. This might include getting in and out of bed, washing and dressing, preparing meals, moving safely around the home, taking medication, keeping the house tidy, going shopping, attending appointments or simply having someone there for companionship.

The aim is to provide the right amount of support while helping you maintain independence, dignity and confidence at home.

The cost of home care in Heywood depends on the type and amount of support you need. Helping Hands’ visiting care prices currently start from £32.40 per hour, with visits available from 30 minutes, and live-in care currently starts from £1,675 per week for one person. A call-out or travel charge may also apply.

Because everyone’s needs are different, the best way to get an accurate price is to arrange a care assessment. This helps create a tailored care plan and a clear breakdown of costs before care begins.

Home care can be cheaper than a care home, especially if you only need support for part of the day or a few times a week. Age UK says privately arranged home care can cost around £25 per hour, while residential care averages around £949 per week and nursing home care around £1,267 per week, although costs vary by area and needs.

For people who need round-the-clock support, live-in care may be closer in cost to residential care, but it allows you to remain in your own home, keep familiar routines and receive one-to-one support.

Yes. Helping Hands states that its service is regulated by the Care Quality Commission, or CQC, in England and the Care Inspectorate Wales, or CIW, in Wales. These regulators monitor care providers to make sure they meet required standards for safety, quality and care delivery.

Individual branch ratings can vary, so it is always worth checking the relevant local branch profile when arranging care in Heywood.

Home care in Heywood can often be arranged quickly, depending on your needs, location and carer availability. In many cases, care can begin within a few days, and urgent support may be possible sooner following an assessment.

The first step is usually a conversation about your situation, followed by a care assessment and a personalised care plan. This helps make sure the right support is in place from the start.
