York respite support from Helping Hands

Respite care can provide you with a well-deserved break from your care-giving duties, whilst knowing that your loved one is getting complete continuation of care. This is because the level of care is completely tailored to your loved one and will be supported by a personalised support plan that contains all your routines and preferences for care. Helping Hands have been supporting people to stay independently at home for over 30 years, and our friendly home care in York will happily answer any questions you may have about care.

Perhaps you are the person who is looking for temporary care? Our carers are professional and compassionate and will be able to come to you on a visiting care basis; from a short 30-minute visit once a week, to several visits a day. Alternatively, one of our dedicated carers can live in your home with you, giving you around the clock, live in care in York and companionship, which can be preferable when you prefer not to be in your home on your own.

Respite support can be a useful, short-term form of care if you need extra help temporarily. This could be if:

  • You’re the carer usually, however you’re going on holiday and would like to arrange some cover for your loved one whilst you are away
  • You’ve booked a holiday but would appreciate some extra support while away to get the most out of your trip
  • You’re being discharged from hospital and need some support whilst you are getting used to being back at home
  • You’ve been unwell and need some extra care whilst you are recovering
  • You are attending an event such as a wedding and would like some extra help to get there and during the day

Why respite care is a good option for short-term support

Everyone needs time to relax and recharge their energy, and this is especially true if you’re a caregiver yourself. Whether taking a short or longer break, you need to be reassured that your loved one will be supported as if you were still there, meaning you get the most out of your time away. Being able to stay at home for respite support is preferable for many people who don’t want the inconvenience of going into temporary residential care, as the comfort of being in familiar surroundings can be very comforting.

Respite care services tailored to you

You or your loved one will never be without the support required as our flexible packages of home care are tailored exactly to your requirements. This means that you can spend quality time with other family members and friends, all while knowing that your loved one is being properly taken care of.

Post-discharge support

After being in hospital, you need to be confident about returning home and knowing that you’ll be able to manage while you’re recovering fully. Having a carer support with after hospital care will give you the boost you need to get back on your feet and start living your life to the full again.

Emergency care

Without warning, your regular carer may need to take time off, due to a family emergency or illness, or perhaps you’re being unexpectedly discharged from hospital. Emergency care can therefore be put in place in as little as 24 hours.
