Why choose live in care in York?

Deciding when and how to have care can be quite a daunting decision, especially if you’ve always led an independent life. But with CQC-regulated care from our team providing home care in York, they’ll make this decision be the easiest one you’ve ever made.

Led by experienced manager Donna and her team of friendly carers, they will ensure that you are enabled to maintain your routines, just with a little helping hand along the way. So, if you have dementia and require several calls throughout the day to assist you with personal care or if you have arthritis and are unable to complete the housework by yourself, we can arrange for carers to help you as and when you require. And the great thing about home care is it is just exactly that: care at home, where you feel safe, at ease and surrounded by your home comforts.

What’s included with care from Helping Hands?

Home care may start with a carer accompanying you to the shops or making the bed and doing the laundry once a week. However, as you get more used to having someone come into your home to support you with everyday activities, you may decide to progress to more frequent visits if you find that you could also do with some help with getting up in the morning and making meals.

We can also cater for more complex care needs with our live-in care service, so if you have a specific health condition that requires round-the-clock care such as advanced Alzheimer’s, cancer or a brain injury, a live-in carer can live with you in your home and provide constant reassurance that you have the specific care that you need.

Why you may need care

There are no set parameters that you need to fulfil in order to receive home care – it simply is for anyone that needs support little or often to enable them to carry out activities of daily living in the manner that they wish. We take everything at your pace and provide your care in a style that suits you.

Some require elderly home care if they are in their senior years and require specific support with mobility in and around their home, keeping their cupboards stocked up and ensuring their home is clean and tidy. Whereas other people may need support travelling to and from work or college, or going out for the day with their carer or visiting friends. We’ll meet your needs and create a support plan tailored around you, so that you can live the life you want to lead and on your terms.

Carers for limited hour visits

If you care for a loved one during the day but need someone to step in during night times, overnight care from the York team enables your loved one to have the support they need whilst you get a restful night’s sleep, safe in the knowledge that you have professional carers taking your place. And if you decide to have carers on a more permanent basis throughout the day, we can provide regular visiting care to help with the housework, personal care and companionship.

Intermittent long-term visits

Taking a break is an integral part of life, and just because you have care needs, it shouldn’t mean that you can’t relax on holiday like anyone else. With respite care, we can accompany you to your chosen destination and stay with you for the duration, ensuring you have the right support in place while you enjoy a well-earned break. We can even come with you if you’re taking a holiday with the rest of your family, meaning you don’t have to worry about your care needs and you can all enjoy your holiday together as a family.

Carers for immediate situations

If you’ve just been discharged from hospital or your regular caregiver has been called away, emergency care from the York team can usually be in place on the same day as your call to us. That way, you can convalesce at home if you’re recovering from an illness or injury until you’re back to your old self again, or until your carer returns, with expert care from our empathetic carers.

Carers in York

The care delivered by Donna and her team is second to none, and this wouldn’t be possible without Donna’s carers going above and beyond every single day, putting their customers’ needs above all else. Qualities such as compassion and kindness are the key traits we look for when employing carers, rather than previous care experience, because those natural qualities aren’t something that can be taught.

Once selected, our new recruits have thorough background checks including a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) screening and undergo in-house award winning training. Modules cover manual handling, first aid, personal care, safeguarding and medication. In addition to this initial course, all care staff are required to complete refresher training so that they are always up to date with the latest and safest industry practices.

Arranging live in care in York

If you’re considering care for yourself or a loved one, you can call our customer care specialist team today. They will listen to your current situation and what you may need support with, and then be able to offer different options for you. They will then request a home assessment with Donna, who will discuss your needs in more detail and create a bespoke support plan for you.
