Why care at home is ideal for dementia

A diagnosis of dementia can cause lots of worry and concern not only for the individual diagnosed but for their family members and friends too. Choosing dementia home care means that some of this worry and anxiety can be lessened by knowing that there is professional and friendly support in place that meets your loved one’s needs. Being at home helps people with dementia stay surrounded by familiar sights, sounds and routines, which can help reduce confusion. Our carers provide one-to-one support, getting to know your individual needs and preferences while encouraging independence and confidence in everyday life.

When to consider dementia care at home

A dementia diagnosis can bring uncertainty and anxiety. Having a compassionate, trained carer nearby provides reassurance and practical help. Our carers aim to keep you active and involved, supporting your independence rather than taking over your life.

As time goes by, you may need more detailed care on a regular basis. 24-hour live-in care in York, which can provide the extra reassurance you and your loved ones may prefer, knowing that there is always a carer there on hand to provide you with assistance and assurance, day or night.

Care tailored to your needs

Everyone’s experience with dementia is different, and we've been caring for people living with the condition for long enough to know that dementia care needs can vary massively from person to person. That's why, from your first enquiry, we'll focus on your individual requirements and the specific details of your personal circumstances. Your York Care Manager monitors your condition and adjusts your care plan as needed, so you’re always supported practically and emotionally throughout your dementia journey. So, whether you need a few hours of visiting care each week or round-the-clock live-in care, we'll make sure you're never left feeling isolated or unsupported.

Skilled dementia carers in York

All of our carers are directly recruited, trained and employed by Helping Hands, with zero exceptions. When they join the team, every carer must undergo a four-day induction which includes extensive training on dementia care. This consists of understanding different types of dementia, the seven stages of dementia, supporting the physical and emotional elements of dementia and holistic support for both the individual and their loved ones.. This initial training is reinforced by ongoing refresher courses. It's our promise that no third-party agencies are ever used, as we want to ensure consistency and reliability.

Choosing Helping Hands for Dementia care

With Helping Hands York, you benefit from the experience of a nationally recognised home care provider and the personal touch of local carers. We provide visiting and live-in dementia care, from short calls of 30 minutes up to 24-hour support. Whatever your needs, we’ll put together a care package that works for you.

As dementia specialists, we are closely aligned with the National Dementia Action Alliance, an organisation that promotes the latest and safest practices in dementia care, ensuring that anyone living with dementia is cared for in a way that is meaningful to them. They make sure that we provide appropriate training for our carers, look after all of our customers appropriately and provide safe and responsive care.
