Welcoming the dementia cafe to Alcester

Alcester Dementia Cafe was officially inaugurated today by the Mayor of Alcester, Lennox Cumberbatch.  This is the first initiative of its type in our home town and it gives local people with dementia and their families a place to go for support, a cup of coffee and the opportunity to talk with volunteers who have first-hand experience of the condition.

Helping Hands has built up a wealth of experience of how to care for people with the condition over the last 23 years, so we understand just how important a support network is.  We are delighted to welcome the dementia cafe to Alcester and we look forward to working with them in the future.

Dementia Cafe details

• Open Fridays from 10:30 am – 12:30 pm at 1st Floor, Globe House, Priory Road, Alcester, B49 5DZ

• For more info call Carol or Roger on 01789 488088 or pop along on any Friday.

Experts in dementia

Dementia is a complex condition which requires specialist training to fully understand. Familiarity can be key, and this is why dementia sufferers who are cared for in their own home, often respond better than those who are cared for in hospital and in a care home.

Helping Hands has been caring for people with dementia for over 20 years. In that time we have developed an intrinsic understanding of what dementia means, not only to those who are suffering from the condition, but also to their families.

At Helping Hands’ training centre we instruct our carers in how best to care for people with dementia and how to help provide the right support to their families. The right care often prevents unnecessary hospitalisation, which aside from the clear benefits to the individual, means that hospital beds remain free for others.
