Our people are at the heart of everything we do at Helping Hands. Ensuring that we create a supportive environment, so that our team can grow and be the best they can be, is something we are incredibly passionate about.
We're proud to be a Glassdoor Best Places to Work

Helping Hands is built around four simple core values, ‘listening and understanding’, ‘focus on people’, ‘building on our success’ and ‘excellence every time’. These values underpin the core foundation of our business. We’re delighted that as a result of living and breathing these values, we’ve been awarded a top 50 place for the second consecutive year in the annual Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards, a list of the Best Places to Work in 2019.

What means more to us as an employer is that the accolade is based entirely on feedback from the people who make our business successful – our employees.

About the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards

Unlike other awards, the Glassdoor Employees’ Choice Awards are entirely based on the feedback our employees shared on Glassdoor, both voluntarily and anonymously. To determine the winners of the awards, Glassdoor evaluates all company reviews shared by employees over the past year.

We’re proud, again, to be amongst the top UK businesses to work for with over 1 000 employees, as it is based entirely on feedback from our dedicated teams. It means a lot to us that our employees take the time to leave their thoughts on what it’s like to work here, and the feedback that we receive allows us to continue developing and growing.

Here are just some of the wonderful comments left on Glassdoor by both our carers and our office teams.

What it’s like working for a care provider

“I have never worked in the care sector before so the training was essential. It was fun yet inspiring and I learnt a lot! I have now been out in the community… and can honestly say I have loved it! I can’t believe I didn’t do this sooner!”

A carer in Plymouth

“I’ve been working over 20 years for private companies and the NHS and never had a privilege to work for a company that is rated as one of the best places to work. I can truly see why the employees rated this company so highly, the standards are high, fantastic values and excellent training just supports the ethos and values of the company, you feel that you are appreciated. Meeting the CEO at the opening training day just supports that the company is involved from top to the bottom, towards the same goal.”

A live-in carer

“Flexible hours, the smile you put on someone’s face when they open the door and know you have come to make their day easier. Personally I find this job so rewarding and making a difference to another person’s life every day is the best feeling.”

We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who has left a Helping Hands review on Glassdoor! Find out more about what makes us one of the Best Places to Work in 2019.

Family first – a company that cares

Our founder Mary Lee first started Helping Hands back in 1989, and today her sons Tim (CEO) and Ben (Chief Information Officer) have taken over the reins.

Mary and her sons

As a company with family values running through it at every level, we see all of our team members as one extended family; from our managers working across our 90-strong network of local branches, to the dedicated live-in and visiting carers who constantly go above and beyond to support people in their communities.

That means that we always look out for one another and celebrate our successes. Giving our employees ongoing training means they can always push for the best standard, with the full backing of their colleagues and managers.

Karen Rayfield, Director of People & Performance added, “It makes me incredibly proud to hear how much our employees enjoy working here and that they feel valued in their roles. There’s definitely a culture of care here at Helping Hands and our employees are right at the heart of that – we wouldn’t be where we are today without them!”

Take a look at how our four core values play a huge role in both the support we provide for our customers and how we encourage our people to succeed.

One of the top-rated CEOs of 2018

Earlier this year, our employees gave Tim an impressive 92% approval rating on Glassdoor. This meant he was recognised as the care industry’s highest-ranked CEO, and no. 32 on on Glassdoor’s list of Top 50 UK CEOs to work for.

Tim Lee, Helping Hands CEO

At the time of his award, Tim told us, “We believe that carers should always have full and ongoing support so they can offer the very highest quality of home care to each our customers, whether it’s a home visit from an hour a week or 24-hour complex care. It’s why we invest so much into training and offer so many opportunities for ongoing mentorship, expanding skills and career progression.

“I’m very proud to say that the same vision and values that my family started almost 30 years ago are all still very much alive today,” he added.

Find out what else Tim said about his incredible approval rating and what else our teams said about working for him.
