Glassdoor's 2018 Top CEOs We’re pleased to announce that Helping Hands Chief Executive, Tim Lee, has once again been officially named as a Top CEO, the only chief exec in the care industry to receive such an accolade.

Awarded for the second year running, Tim is named by Glassdoor – one of the world’s largest job and recruiting websites – as one of the Top CEOs across several countries throughout Europe and North America.

The awards themselves are based on anonymous ratings from employees submitted on Glassdoor. As part of the online survey, each company’s employees were asked how satisfied they are with the job their CEO is doing.

One of the reviews shared on Glassdoor, from a live-in carer in Surrey, said, “Brilliant organisational culture… Help and advice is offered at all times”, while a care coordinator in Hampshire revealed how supported she felt at Helping Hands, saying it “isn’t like any other care company out there!”.

In response to the award, and the employee ratings, Tim shares, “I’m really very honoured to receive this award, and for a second time. It feels like one of the greatest praises as it comes direct from our carers and the rest of our dedicated nationwide team.”

He adds, “Rather than purely a personal approval, it’s a real testament to the training, support and working environment here at Helping Hands, and how our whole team works together so that our customers have the highest standard of care within their own homes.”

The 2018 employees’ choice awards

Tim Lee, Helping Hands CEO Tim’s impressive approval rating of 92% places him at number 32 on the UK’s Top 50 list, among other high-profile chief executives such as Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, Apple’s Tim Cook and Hilton’s Christopher Nassetta.

The award comes just one month after Helping Hands’ entire employee training and induction programme became endorsed as a Centre of Excellence by Skills for Care, a significant achievement demonstrating their dedication and commiment to providing the highest quality of training. And last year, the company was ranked number 22 in the UK’s Best Places to Work, which – like the Top CEO award – was voted for by employees past and present.

We asked Tim about his thoughts on receiving such high ratings. “We’re a family-owned and family-run company, and that is apparent in everything we do.

“Helping Hands is one of the UK’s largest and fastest growing providers of domiciliary and live-in care, and we’re one of the very few that directly employs, trains and supports every one of our carers ourselves. We believe that carers should always have full and ongoing support so they can offer the very highest quality of home care to each our customers, whether it’s a home visit from an hour a week or 24-hour complex care. It’s why we invest so much into training and offer so many opportunities for ongoing mentorship, expanding skills and career progression.”

He adds, “We’ve never lost sight of our roots. We’ve grown so much over the years – now with 74 branches nationwide and over 3,000 employees – and I’m very proud to say that the same vision and values that my family started almost 30 years ago are all still very much alive today.”

Examples of employee reviews

One Helping Hands Home Care Birmingham employee said, “I’ve been working over 20+ years for the private companies and the NHS and never had a privilege to work for a company that is rated as one of the best places to work.”

She added, “Meeting the CEO at the opening training day, just supports that the company is involved from top to the bottom, towards the same goal.”

A care manager based in London reported, “The whole family concept and focus on quality care is immense… I was lucky enough to witness a staff member be awarded her 25 years’ service today. That speaks for itself.”

Another employee from Worsley, said “I have worked at Helping Hands Home Care for a little while and I can see a huge difference from my previous job. We have amazing staff, fantastic support, fab hours and I genuinely wouldn’t go anywhere else. Full support is given to all members of staff whether new or not.”

How the ratings work

The CEO approval ratings were all collected through Glassdoor’s online company review survey. Both current and previous employees were asked about their jobs and how satisified they are with the company, together with the company’s work environment and culture.

In addition to the survey questions, employees were asked to rate many workplace factors such as benefits and compensation and the work-life balance on offer at the company. They were also asked about their thoughts on the job their CEO is doing, and whether they approve, disapprove or are neutral about their input and role.

For more insight into a company, employees were asked to describe the upsides and downsides about working there and offer any specific advice for the senior management.
