What is respite care?

Respite care is short-term support when your regular carer isn’t available, or if you don’t usually have care but require extra support for a week or two to help you get back on your feet. It’s often presumed that respite care can only be carried out somewhere away from your home but that’s not the case, as with Helping Hands we can provide respite support in your own home, meaning you get to remain comfortably in a place that’s familiar to you, until your regular carer returns or you are fully recovered.

When to choose respite care

When regular carers need a break or following an operation or illness you may require some extra support to get you back to full health, or to enable your hardworking carer to take a proper holiday. It’s vital that carers get to take regular breaks away from their duties, as caring for someone else full-time can be both physically and emotionally exhausting. It’s important therefore that they get some time away and come back relaxed and refreshed and ready to care for you again. It may also be good for you, as you’ll appreciate them all the more when they return.

Respite care services tailored to you

Our respite care services can be delivered on either a visiting or live-in basis, depending on your needs, but regardless of which service you choose, you’ll still always receive exemplary care from compassionate carers who have your wellbeing as their priority at all times. Visiting care means your carers will attend to you as often as you need, at prearranged times of the day and for durations that suit your requirements. Live-in care, as the name suggests, will see a carer reside in your home with you around the clock, giving extra reassurance to both you and your loved ones that you’re never alone at home. Both visiting and live-in care will see your carer helping with a variety of tasks such as medication, meal preparation, mobility support, personal care and housework.

Qualified respite carers in Location

Keeping you comfortably in the home you love is the highest priority for everyone who works for us, and our amazing carers will work tirelessly to respect your routines at every turn. They’ll provide you with expert care at home instead of having to go into a care home, meaning you remain in the place you love and still get expert care. We select our carers carefully to ensure they are naturally compassionate people, and we train them well to ensure they have all the skills they need to care for you. We’re also fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales to give you and your loved ones confidence in our consistently high standards of care.
