What is respite care?

Respite care is short-term support from a different provider to your usual carer, that gives your regular carer a break from their caregiving duties. Traditionally, respite care was delivered in nursing and residential homes, meaning you would have to uproot from the home you love and move into an unfamiliar place temporarily, however that isn’t the case with Helping Hands as you can have excellent respite care delivered directly in the home you love.

When to choose respite care

If you already have a carer it’s vital that they get to take regular breaks from their duties, as otherwise they won’t be able to maintain their physical and emotional wellbeing. Alternatively, it may be that you don’t have a carer normally, but you require a little extra support after an illness, injury or hospital discharge. There may also be an occasion when you need emergency cover because your carer is taken ill, if that’s the case we can get a carer into your home quickly, usually within hours.

Respite care services tailored to you

Our packages of respite care are tailored exactly to our customers’ requirements, whether they have mild or complex care needs. You’ll have a personalised support plan that will detail exactly how you like your daily routine to run, and which will enable your respite carer to provide a seamless continuity of care from the moment they arrive. Our carers will be able to support you on either a visiting care or live-in care basis with everything you’d like done, such as personal care, medication, mobility, meal preparation, housework and accessing the local community. They will also be happy to accompany you to appointments, provide companionship and a great conversation, if that’s what you enjoy.

Qualified respite carers in Dudley

Our fantastic carers make such a difference to our customers’ lives, every single day. That’s because we only select the best people to become Helping Hands carers, and we ensure they have high levels of natural compassion and empathy so that they deliver what we’d expect. We train them carefully when they join us because we want them to be able to provide the highest levels of care on a daily basis, but we can’t train them to care from the heart – that has to come naturally. We fully check all of our carers’ background checks and screen them through the Disclosure and Barring Service, so that you and your loved ones can be confident that only people who should be entering your home are doing so. We’re also fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, so that our standards always remain high, meaning you will be really satisfied with the care you receive on a daily basis.
