Meet Sarah, our Branch Manager

Sarah Bland, St Albans & Hertford Branch Manager

"I love getting to know new customers and working with them to create a package of care that suits their lifestyle and enables their independence," Sarah explains. “Having been a carer myself, I believe that I can share my first-hand experiences with new carers.”

Sarah’s experiences have come from working in a care home and in a hospital. She looks back on these with great fondness and pride:

“In the care home, I mainly supported people with advanced dementia and learnt a lot from this experience. In the hospital, I was based on the emergency assessment ward, and have experience in supporting people who had gone into cardiac arrests. I really enjoyed being able to help the patients in their time of need.”

Regular home visits for families around Hemel Hempstead

We understand that every care situation is unique, which is why the support that Sarah and her team offers covers a whole variety of areas – from personal care to household duties – we’re here to help. Starting from a half-hour visit a week all the way to several hours each day, our carers are on hand to support with the day-to-day activities you might be finding difficult.

Visiting care is an ideal solution if you know that you need or want some extra help but don’t want to move into residential care. Our carers will come to you working to your timetable and the support we can provide covers:

  • Personal care and hygiene: helping you to use a commode or the shower, while always giving you privacy and space
  • Managing medication and ensuring you’re safe when swallowing pills
  • Tending to aspects of complex care such as stomas and catheters
  • Helping you to get dressed in the morning or at night

Though the practical support our carers provide is incredibly important, they also place a lot of importance on helping you when you’re out in the community. They’ll be by your side if you need to go to the shops or if you want to meet up with family and friends.

It’s for this reason that we choose our carers based on a combination of experience and personality.

The extraordinary lengths that you and your fellow management staff/carers went to to make their final days as comfortable as possible, and to ensure that I had ample support at a difficult time, is something that I will never forget. Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful care and support.

Constant, ongoing live-in care around Hemel Hempstead

As time goes by, you may start to feel that you need a more consistent care solution or you’re concerned about the welfare of a loved one. Our live-in care can provide peace of mind and reassurance to ensure your relative is fully supported.

A live-in carer, carefully chosen by us, will live with you in your home and make sure you have everything you need to remain comfortable and safe at all times. Over the last 30 years, our live-in carers have cared for people with various conditions, such as dementia, Parkinson’s and those recovering from a stroke.

Welcoming a new person into your home can be daunting, but our local managers will help you settle in with having your new carer around and make sure that they not only have the right experience but also the right personality. In other works, they’ll be the perfect fit for all of your needs.

Whether you just need live-in care for a short period of time after a stay in hospital or a more permanent arrangement, live-in care is a viable alternative to residential care.

One-to-one dementia care from our specialists

Caring for a person with dementia can be a lot to take on for a family. As a dementia care specialist, we’ve been supporting people with different forms of the condition for over 30 years and understand the need for consistency in dementia care.

Dementia affects people in different ways – someone might just need gentle encouragement or reminders to take their medication for example, while another person might need constant supervision throughout the day. The solution we provide is always unique to the individual we support and can be easily altered if your needs change.

Making a positive and significant difference to the sometimes very challenging lives of people, is frankly what this job is all about. Knowing that I’ve fully achieved – that is hugely rewarding.

Advanced care for complex conditions

Neurological conditions and complex injuries often need specific care. Our carers have the backing of a team of experienced clinical nurses, which allows them to support people with conditions such as motor neurone disease and people who have sustained brain or spinal injuries.

Our carers can assist with various areas of complex care, always maximising comfort and independence. From changing catheters to managing various medications and using specialist equipment such as hoists and ventilators, our team has the right solution to help you stay as independent as possible.

Care for short-term breaks

Supporting a loved one each and every day can be draining and difficult to manage. And if you’re juggling other commitments, it can feel incredibly overwhelming.

Though it can be rewarding, being a loved one’s full-time carer can make you feel fatigued and in need of a break. Respite care, arranged on a short-term basis, lets you take some time for yourself so you can recharge your batteries but still be assured your loved one has the same level of support you’d expect for them.

You can also use respite care as a way of seeing how care in your home can work further down the line. Or you might need to leave your loved one to resolve a family emergency. We can often arrange care to start as soon as possible so as to cause as little disruption as possible to your routine.
