Visiting and live-in care in Hemel Hempstead
With historical references such as its 12th century church that is still one of the tallest spires in Europe, or the traces of a Roman villa near Piccott’s End – Hemel Hempstead has a rich, cultural background with lots to discover. Expanded upon after World War II, the Hertfordshire conurbation was known as one of the UK’s ‘New Towns’ to house those affected by The Blitz. And now, it’s also home to Sarah’s team of expert carers from Helping Hands.
Your local team of dedicated carers provide support in Apsley, Bedmond, Berkhamstead, Bovington, Chipperfield, Felden, Hemel Hampstead, Kings Langley, Nash Mills, Piccotts End, Pimlico and the surrounding areas. Whatever your requirements, you can be sure that Sarah and the team can accommodate them.
Meet Sarah, our Branch Manager
"I love getting to know new customers and working with them to create a package of care that suits their lifestyle and enables their independence," Sarah explains. “Having been a carer myself, I believe that I can share my first-hand experiences with new carers.”
Sarah has worked in both a care home and hospital setting, working in an emergency assessment unit for different conditions and also supporting people living with advanced dementia. Her breadth of knowledge and experience has meant that she is able to make sure only the very best care is provided to her customers across Hemel Hempstead and to also ensure her care team are operating under the very latest practices.
Home care visits for when you need extra support
Since 1989, we’ve been providing industry-leading home care to thousands of people across the UK. This sentiment continues in Hemel Hempstead. With award winning training, Sarah’s team put every effort in keeping as many people happy and cared for within their own homes as possible.
Whether you’ve reached your senior years and just need a bit of extra support with the housework, or if you’re living with a progressive condition that requires regular calls throughout the day, Sarah’s team will meet with you to work out what suits you best.
Putting our customers at the forefront of their care is how we’ve always done it here at Helping Hands, and that will never change. You can decide when you receive assistance and how you receive it – we’re completely flexible around you and your requirements.
The extraordinary lengths that you and your fellow management staff/carers went to to make their final days as comfortable as possible, and to ensure that I had ample support at a difficult time, is something that I will never forget. Many thanks to all of you for your wonderful care and support.

Live-in care built around you
You may be living with a complex spinal or neurological injury and require round-the-clock support, or you might be living as a couple and one of you needs more intensive support that your partner is able to provide on daily basis. That’s where live-in care from Helping Hands could be the perfect solution for you.
Designed with you in mind, live-in care takes into account all of your care needs as well as your preferences and interests. So, if you love the wildlife and scenery of the Grand Union Canal and don’t want to give up your weekly walks along the tow path, we’ll find a carer that will be with you every step of the way.
With the support of our expert clinical nurse teams, you can rest assured that you or your loved ones’ needs will be taken care of, regardless of their medical diagnosis or condition. So, if you have a tracheostomy, catheter or stoma, we’ll be able to assist with this whilst you remain in the comforts of your own home.
Domiciliary care as and when you need
Allowing our customers to regain independence and control over their care is what the Hemel Hempstead team strive to do for everyone they assist. Just because you require visiting care, it doesn’t mean that you should have to adhere to strict times or routines, which is why we work collaboratively with you to put a care plan into place.
Domiciliary care doesn’t just mean that we pop in, complete your care needs and not see you until your next appointment. If you need extra calls, then we can adapt to your needs, or if you want us to take you for a gentle stroll in Gadebridge Park, then we will gladly do so.
Dementia care that puts you at the centre
Living with dementia can be difficult for both the individual and their family, but our experienced dementia care team are here to make sure you don’t have to go through this alone. Trained by our expert team, all of our carers are dementia specialists and equipped to support you with the symptoms, behaviours and adjustments that come with a dementia diagnosis.
We understand how important routines are when living with dementia. That’s why we’ll make sure your care plan is left unaltered and the same familiar faces of our Hemel Hempstead team pop into to look after you, ensuring that any anxieties or worries are alleviated as much as possible.
Elderly care to maintain your independence
As time goes by, things that you once used to be able to do may now be a little more difficult. Instead of doing everything for you, Sarah’s team aim to assist you with what you used to be able to do, rather than taking over completely. After all, person-centred care means that your care is based around you.
And if you do develop a medical condition or become more unsteady on your feet, we’ll adapt your care to counteract this – whether that’s helping you with mobility aids and preventing trips and falls, or adding more care calls throughout the day to help you to cook meals and get in and out of bed safely.
Respite care for emergencies or short-term breaks
Care needs can arise at any given time, and if you’re left in a situation where you urgently need support, we’re able to put care in place often on the same day that you enquire. It might be that you’ve just been discharged from hospital and are unable to get around your house safely to tidy up, or your regular caregiver may have to attend a family emergency – whatever your situation is, we can swiftly arrange respite care and lessen the load of any worries that you may have.
Respite care is also a great way for you and your family to enjoy a holiday together, where all of you are able to enjoy a real break and not have to worry about your care needs. A member of Sarah’s team will accompany you to your chosen destination and make sure you have everything you need – whether you’re off to London for a couple of days or you’re heading to a more tropical climate abroad.
Friendly carers in your local area
We’re extremely proud of all of our Hemel Hempstead carers, as they really are what makes us renowned for providing the very best care across the area. Their passion, kindness and professionalism are second-to-none.
As well as being a friendly face that lights up your day, all of our carers go through a strict training programme, covering modules such as safeguarding, dementia, manual handling and first aid. They are also put through a stringent recruitment process, with several references required from previous positions and Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) screenings before they begin their Helping Hands journey.
All of our branches, including Hemel Hempstead, are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), which means that our services are fully compliant with the CQC’s guidelines for safe, effective and responsive care. We are the only home care provider endorsed as a Centre of Excellence by Skills for Care. We’re also a founding member of the United Kingdom Home Care Association (UKHCA), who promote the highest standards for both care and staff within home care organisations.
Making a positive and significant difference to the sometimes very challenging lives of people, is frankly what this job is all about. Knowing that I’ve fully achieved – that is hugely rewarding.
