Home care in Sheffield

Choosing home care in Sheffield from Helping Hands

Since 1989, we’ve been providing care to people in the place they feel most comfortable and safe: their own homes. And we believe that anyone in need of additional support – whether it’s help with changing the bed sheets and preparing meals, or assistance with getting in and out of bed – should have the choice to have home care in their own home.

Our CQC-regulated branch in Sheffield offers high-quality care across the city and the surrounding areas. So if you’re a die-hard United fan and need support getting to and from Bramall Lane or if you need assistance collecting your shopping, we’ll be there to help with whatever you need help with. After all, caring is so much more than just helping with the practicalities; it’s also about enabling you to live the life you want to lead.

What’s included with Sheffield home care at Helping Hands?

Home care includes everything and anything that you need support with to live independently in your own home – both practically and emotionally. The main features of home care are personal care, assistance with mobility, support to take medication, light household duties and cooking. But there are other elements of home care that are also covered by the Sheffield team including shopping, light gardening, support with pets and general companionship.

Do you need home care?

There isn’t a prescribed list of reasons that you have to fulfil in order to have care at home – it’s simply if you need additional support with any activities of daily living, including accessing work, study or life-long hobbies.

We’ll be there for you whenever you need us, in the day or overnight, and can support you if you’re living with Parkinson’s in your late seventies or if you’re living with motor neurone disease and you’re in your fifties. Our carers are trained in a variety of different types of health care conditions, with some even taking on advanced training and specialising in conditions such as dementia care.

Carers for limited hour visits

You may not necessarily need personal care but instead you might need regular visiting care to support with the vacuuming, changing the bed sheets and doing the laundry. The Sheffield team can support you with the housework so that you don’t have to worry about doing everything yourself, particularly if you have difficulties with your mobility or arthritis. And once you get to know your regular carers, you may feel more comfortable to request extra support with getting in and out of the shower and morning calls to help you get dressed. We’re completely flexible around you and ensure that your support plan is tailored to you and your needs.

Intermittent long-term visits

For more in-depth care that lasts several days or weeks whilst your regular carer has a break, respite care can be the ideal way to ensure that you still have the support that you need without your regular caregiver worrying that you’re being left alone. We’ll meet with both of you so that we can create the same routine with your respite carer that you’re already used to. That way, you’ll all have the peace of mind that you need so your carer can take a much-needed step back whilst we step in.

Carers for immediate situations

Care needs often crop up without any notice and with urgency, often at a time of crisis. With emergency care from the team in Sheffield, we can usually arrange for one of our carers to be with you on the same day as your enquiry, so you are all reassured that you or your loved one is being looked after by a professional and friendly carer.

Expert home carers in Sheffield

Susan and her team of carers are dedicated to providing the very best support to their customers across the city. To ensure that they do this to the highest of standards, all of our carers go through a thorough assessment and selection process at the beginning of their Helping Hands journey.

After completing a enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) screening, carers undergo theoretical and practical training to ensure they’re equipped to provide exceptional practical and emotional support. Modules for our award-winning training include moving and handling, dementia, first aid, personal care and safeguarding, and once completed, our new recruits will then shadow experienced carers until they are ready to visit their own customers and begin to form their own bonds with them.

We’re extremely proud of every single one of our carers, who go above and beyond to support our customers in their own homes on a daily basis.

How to arrange home care in Sheffield

If you’d like to discuss yours or a loved one’s care needs, you can call our customer care specialist team seven days a week. They will be able to talk you through the different options available that will best suit you and arrange a meeting with Susan to come and visit you at home.
