Home care in Whitby
Visiting care and home care in Whitby
The Yorkshire seaside town of Whitby dates back to 656, when Oswy – the Christian king of Northumbria – founded the first abbey and monastery in the area. The monastery was destroyed by Vikings in the mid-9th Century before eventually being rebuilt two centuries later.
At Helping Hands, our history doesn’t go back quite that far but we’ve still got over 30 years’ experience in helping people in Whitby and the surrounding areas to enjoy independent, relaxing lives in the comfort and familiarity of their own homes.

Branch Care Manager
As Branch Manager it is my responsibility to ensure the safe and effective day to day management of the branch, providing guidance and support to all branch staff, carers and customers. Within my role I aim to ensure compliance and quality for staff and customers is met in line with CQC standards and legislative requirements. I joined the care industry when my children became independent as I wanted to make a difference to people's lives and enable them to live independently and safely at home. I quickly built up professional relationships in the care sector and enjoyed the role of carer, this then inspired me to climb the career ladder, eventually taking the role of Branch Manager. I am proud to work for Helping Hands as it is a very family-orientated company with high values, plus the training and support is outstanding. I feel my team of carers are compassionate about their role and I am able to guide them along their journey. If I come across any obstacles then I will gain support to enable us to work together as a team. I have been married for 35 years and have 3 children, who have now provided us with 6 grandchildren. I enjoy rugby and support Saint Helens rugby league, and I like to attend the games when I am able to. I also enjoy holidays abroad and spending time with our friends at weekends.

Emergency care
-
If you or a loved one find yourself unexpectedly needing care at short notice, you may wish to consider emergency care from Helping Hands. We can’t always predict when we might need care – perhaps you’ve been discharged from hospital earlier than anticipated, or you’re recovering from an accident and are unable to get around the house like you normally would. Our emergency carers will generally be with you within 24 hours to provide you with compassionate, expert assistance – ensuring you’re not left unsupported and are able to focus on making a recovery or enjoying your usual routines.

Private care in Whitby
-
With a private care plan, you’re in control of the support that you receive. From your initial phone call with your local care team, we’ll take the time to understand your personal preferences and requirements and ensure you can develop a care plan with a level of support that suits you. You’ll also have control over smaller details of your care that might still be important to you, such as meal choices and bed times, as well as being able to spend more time with loved ones at the times that suit you best.
-
Overnight care
-
One of the main reasons people choose to have a live-in carer is to enjoy the added benefit of overnight care. Having a carer stay with you overnight can be a source of reassurance and security, both for you and for your friends and family who might be worrying about leaving you unsupported throughout the night in case you have a fall or a medical emergency.
