Respite care in London

London respite support from Helping Hands

While being a carer is one of the most rewarding jobs someone can ever have, it can leave a person exhausted at times as they are giving so much of themselves to look after you. This of course is what makes it so special, however, it is also why they must take regular breaks to ensure they return to you refreshed and ready to care anew.

Taking a break from each other can also benefit both of you, as it means you both get a change and will most likely appreciate each other that bit more when they return to your home to care for you once again. We have an amazing London care team who can provide respite care and support for a few days or weeks or however long you need us for, and because Helping Hands have been supporting people in their own homes since 1989, you know everyone will be in the best hands with us.

What is respite care?

Respite care is a viable option when your regular carer is unavailable, perhaps because they need to take a scheduled break or maybe if they’ve been taken ill themselves. It could also be that you don’t usually require care at home but due to recovering from an illness, surgery or accident, you would appreciate some extra help to get you back on your feet. If you’ve been discharged from the hospital and require a short-term package of care at home then respite can be invaluable, and with care able to begin within 24 hours usually, we can cover emergency home care too.

When to choose respite care

Receiving your care at home is preferable to having to move into residential care for most people, even temporarily, because you get to remain in familiar surroundings, with people, pets and possessions around you that mean the world. Seeing the same carer or small team of carers every day is much more likely when you have care at home too, unlike if you’re in a residential home with the varying shift patterns and often high turnover of staff. Your carer can only perform at their best if they get a chance to regularly step away from their duties, so it’s vital they get to do so as often as is practical.

Respite care services tailored to you

When you choose respite care from Helping Hands you get support on either a visiting care or live in care basis, whatever best suits your needs. Our carers can support you with every aspect of your daily routine, from personal care to medication, meal preparation to accessing the community; whatever you need, we can do. Your bespoke plan of care will be designed meticulously to your needs, accompanied by a personalised support plan that will detail every element of your care needs. That way, whether you’re living with mild or complex care requirements, you’ll always be kept at the centre of your care journey.

Qualified respite carers in London

Our carers are amongst the best in the industry and that’s not just us saying that – we hear from our customers and their loved ones all the time, telling us what a difference their carers have made to their daily life. We like to think that’s partly because we choose our carers so carefully, making sure they share our ethos for delivering the highest standards of care every day, as well as naturally occurring traits of kindness and compassion. In return we train them carefully, enhancing their natural skills with those they’ll need to support their customers fully, every single day. We’re also proud to be fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales as not every care company is, meaning you’ll always be able to trust our consistent standards and high levels of care delivery.
