What is long-term care?

Long-term care is a type of care that is designed for people living with serious or debilitating conditions that prevent them from being able to fully support themselves. The primary objective of long-term care is to make sure every customer is receiving consistent, regulated care that helps them to manage the symptoms from any medical conditions they may have and ensures they’re able to enjoy the best possible quality of life. At Helping Hands, we’ve been providing dedicated home care services to customers across England and Wales since 1989. In that time, we’ve helped tens of thousands of people to live more confidently and securely in the comforting, familiar surroundings of their own homes. Our care focuses on giving our customers the ability to retain as much normality and independence as possible, which is particularly important for people receiving care over a long period of time.

Who is suitable for long-term care?

Long-term care is ideal for anyone who is likely to need extra support for an extended period of time, whatever their age. It might be that you’re living with a complex condition such as a type of dementia or cancer, or maybe you’ve got a disability that means you can’t do everything you’d like to around your home. It’s always great when family and friends are there to help out, but sometimes we just need the occasional extra bit of support to keep us going from day to day. We’re able to offer long-term care on both a visiting and live-in basis. With care plans starting from just 30 minutes a week, our Durham carers are completely flexible around your needs and preferences, and are able to assist you around your home in whatever ways you need – from doing the laundry and preparing meals, to running errands and helping you bathe, dress and toilet.
