What is respite care?

Respite care is a short-term, temporary package of care that is usually delivered by a different provider to your usual care. This is because it is necessary for your carer to have regular breaks from their caregiving duties to ensure that they’re always in the best physical and emotional health to promote your wellbeing. Respite care can also be necessary because your carer has been taken ill, and in those emergency circumstances you need to know that Helping Hands can have a carer in your home within hours of you calling us. You of course may have never needed care before, but because of a short-term incapacity, caused by surgery, an illness or accident, you may need some temporary care just to get you back to full health again, or post discharge from hospital.

When to choose respite care

Because you may usually live independently and may not feel you need support, you may be reluctant to admit you need some level of care after you’ve been ill or in hospital, however respite care can be that small amount of extra support that means you get back on your own two feet quickly. Even when you do normally have care and support at home, it can still be difficult to think of a different person coming after getting used to someone, however it’s vital your carer takes regular breaks even if they say they don’t need to, as caring for someone else, while rewarding, can be exhausting.

Respite care services tailored to you

When you have respite support from Helping Hands you can be assured of a consistent, high-quality service on either a visiting or live in care basis. You may only need someone to pop in once a day to help you with your morning routine, or you may prefer regular calls throughout the day or even someone living with you around the clock. This all depends on the complexity of your condition and the level of support you’d prefer; however our packages of care can be tailored to your exact requirements so you get the type of care you need. Our carers are amazing and will support you with every aspect of your needs, including personal care, medication, mobility, meal preparation, housework, laundry, accessing the community and more.

Qualified respite carers in Eastleigh

Our incredible carers are the real heart of Helping hands and they make our business what it is, thanks to their willingness to go above and beyond to ensure our customers live their best quality of life at home. Don’t take our word for it though; you only have to read some of the reviews we receive every single day saying how our carers have changed the lives of our customers and their loved ones, to know the care we deliver is something special. We’re proud of the fact that we only select a small amount of our total applicants to become our carers because it shows we’re looking for very special qualities that not everyone has – we’re looking for natural compassion and empathy and a demonstrable attitude of kindness towards others. In return, we carefully train our carers while ensuring that they’re always motivated by offering excellent working conditions and opportunities to develop their career, and thanks to being fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales you and your loved ones can also be confidence in our exemplary service.
