What is respite care?

Respite care is a short-term period of care that can be necessary because your care needs change occasionally, but also because your carer works incredibly hard to keep you safe and they need to be able to step away from their responsibilities from time to time. You may have been discharged from hospital and would like some help getting back on your feet, been living with an unexpected or ongoing illness, or need emergency care; whatever the circumstances we can help, often getting carer to you within 24 hours.

When to choose respite care

You may be in need of some additional care temporarily while you recover from surgery, the effects of a fall, or an illness, or maybe you would appreciate extra support at home for a while, until your regular carer returns from their holiday. Your family may be your regular carers but it’s just as important that they get to take some time away and spend time relaxing as a family, either with you or while you remain at home. If you would like to accompany them you may worry that they won’t get to unwind effectively, however if you take a carer with you it’ll mean you all get a chance to enjoy yourselves while away.

Respite care services tailored to you

Our respite care services can be delivered on either a visiting or live-in care basis. Visiting care sees carers coming to you at home as often as you need them, from just 30 minutes a week, for several daily visits or overnight if necessary. Live-in care will mean a carer resides in your home with you, giving the added reassurance for both you and your loved ones that you’ll never be alone at home. Either way, your carers will support you with every aspect of your daily routine, including your medication and mobility, meal preparation and housework, personal care and everything else you may need. Our carers will also help you to access the local community if its something you like to do.

Qualified respite carers in Bury

Helping Hands began back in 1989 as a family business, and even though we’ve now grown to encompass almost 150 branches across England and Wales, we’ve never lost sight of the values we were founded with, and still live by them today. We’re considered to be one of the UK’s foremost homecare experts because of our outstanding knowledge but also because of our carers, who are the most dedicated in the industry.

We can be sure of that because we only take on people who possess natural qualities that cannot be taught: namely kindness, empathy and patience. Our carers are trained well when they join us and given opportunities to develop throughout their career, and we always promote from within whenever possible. This means our carers are always motivated and our customers benefit from their enhanced levels of skill and experience every day. You and your loved ones will also be reassured that we’re fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, which means that we’ll always maintain our high levels of expert care at all times.
