When you choose care from Helping Hands you get the benefit of our more than 30 years of experience in the home care industry, as well as our incredible carers coming to your home to deliver exceptional levels of care. We’re fully regulated by the CQC and CIW as well, so if you’d like to learn more contact us today.
We can support you in and around Gateshead, Dunston, Felling Shore, Bensham, High Fell, Windy Nook, Wrekenton, Springwell, Concord, Washington, Birtley and the surrounding areas.
Gateshead is possibly most famous for its iconic sculpture the Angel of the North, which watches over passing motorists and the city alike. The population boomed during the Industrial Revolution like in so many parts of Britain, increasing by over 100,000 during the years 1801-1901.
We understand rapid growth at Helping Hands, as for the past 30 years we have expanded from one local branch to well over 100 and with our exceptional visiting and live-in care services we really are the ones to trust with your care at home.
"My name is Natasha, I am 24 and have lived in Newcastle all my life. Here at Helping Hands I provide support to customers and carers throughout their care journey, ensuring high quality bespoke care is being delivered and carers are well supported and valued at all times. I ‘fell into’ care aged just 18, in my first ever job role and have worked in care ever since. I never thought I would develop such a passion for delivering care, and as I leave work each evening I know I have helped improve the quality of someone’s life, and that is something that inspires me daily.
"I decided to join Helping Hands as I believe working for a company that shares the same values and goals as you is monumental. When I started my career with Helping Hands I was astonished at how driven and committed each and every carer is, not only to the company, but most importantly to every single one of their customers and maintaining and growing this is what I thrive on."
For over 30 years, we've been supporting people with care, nurse-supported care and companionship across England and Wales. As industry-leaders in home care, we know what it takes to provide the right level of care so that you can retain your independence in the comfort of your beloved home.
Over 100 branches across the UK means we're local to you
We are not an agency - we employ every carer directly

Family-run and experts in home care since 1989
Fully flexible care packages as your needs change
Flexible care provided in your own home with a fully qualified carer. Visits start from as little as 30 minutes up to several hourly or overnight calls throughout the week.
One-to-one support from a fully qualified care that lives with you. Full-time support so you can stay at home where you feel most comfortable.
With visiting care, you get the flexibility of a visiting service combined with the knowledge that you’re being supported by a company with over 30 years of expertise in the home care industry. Our compassionate carers will come to you from just 30 minutes a week to ensure your care is carried out to your own exacting standards, so whether you’d appreciate support with housework, personal care, medication, or so much more, we can help.
With live-in care you get one of our dedicated and professional carers living in your home with you so that all of your care can be carried out as you need it, day or night. In addition, you also get constant companionship which is of great reassurance to both you and your loved ones, whether you have mild or complex care needs. Your care will be tailored around you and your routines, meaning that you always remain at the centre of your own care journey.
We’re better than a home care agency because we don’t do things that agencies traditionally do, such as charge you hidden fees for matching you with your carer or making you pay to be ‘introduced’ to your most suitable carer. We also don’t expect our carers to be self-employed, meaning that they are all fully employed by us and therefore get to concentrate on the most important thing of all, your care.
Domiciliary care is literally care at home, and whether you choose to have our visiting service, live-in or a blend of both, we will ensure you are looked after perfectly within the home you love. If you have complex care needs we can also offer the option of supervision from our clinical nurses which means you can avoid going into a care home if you’d prefer to stay in your own home.
When you’re living with dementia you want to know that should you need care in the future you are receiving it from a specialist dementia care company who have over 30 years’ experience. At Helping Hands, we understand dementia and we know how it affects our customers’ lives, meaning that we will be with you every step of the way as the condition progresses and will work tirelessly to help you create, preserve and reflect on memories in the home you love.
If you need temporary support due to your regular carer taking a break, your family going on holiday or while you recover from an accident or illness, then maybe respite care could be the answer. You may not usually have care or perhaps you want to see if it suits you, whatever the reason you need us we can help with every aspect of your daily life and routine. Even in an emergency, we can usually get care to you within 24 hours.
Getting older can sometimes cause us to slow down and find everyday tasks more difficult than they used to be. Because of this, elderly care can be useful as we age, especially if you’re living with frailties or the result of arthritis or joint pain. Don’t struggle to get tasks done when you could be having one of our helpful carers coming to support you with housework such as vacuuming and laundry, or any other aspect of your daily routine, such as personal care or meal preparation.
Our carers are amazing; we know they are because they go above and beyond every single day to support our customers within their own homes to live the best lives they can. We train them well to achieve this and value them highly as they really are the heart of our business. Our carers deliver our expert service on a daily basis, promoting our customers’ dignity and independence and keeping them safe and comfortable within the home they love, and because we’re fully regulated by the Care Quality Commission and Care Inspectorate Wales, you can have full confidence in our excellent standards of care.
Every one of our carers is a dementia specialist
