Working as a live-in carer, you will be accommodated in the customers home making this a great career for our international carers. If you are caring and compassionate and have the right to work in the UK, we’d love to hear from you.
From a young girl I wanted to become a nurse, I loved taking care of people. So, after 43 years of working in one of the major banks in South Africa, I applied for a role with Helping Hands.
After completing the application form and the interview process, I was invited to attend training. The training was amazing, it was informative and very helpful. The training team are wonderful people, they shared a lot of their own personal experiences doing care work, and how they dealt with challenges, which were extremely helpful.
My first placement was with a lovely lady of 87 years old, she had dementia. We really had a lot of fun together, she had a beautiful voice and enjoyed singing, so we would sing together. Most days we would go for a walk, there was a quaint little coffee shop up the road from where she lived so we would often pop in there for a cup of coffee and a piece of cake and have a chat.
I have been working for Helping Hands for 4 months now and am really enjoying it. They are very supportive and always willing to help, they are always just a phone call away.
After evaluating all my experiences to date, would I go back? Yes, definitely, it made me stronger, more independent and opened up a whole new world that redefines my purpose
