What’s included with care at Helping Hands?

Regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), home care from Helping Hands consists of any tasks that you need assistance to carry out or are unable to do so by yourself, such as personal care, taking medication, help with mobility aids, household duties, preparing meals and attending appointments.

Home care doesn’t just cover practical tasks in and around the home; it also includes emotional support and assistance to continue with your regular hobbies – whether that’s taking a trip to the city centre and admiring the beautiful architecture of Cambridge University or having a game of chess with your carer.

Why you might need care

Whether you need elderly care due to difficulties with your mobility and arthritis or if you’re living with a long-term health condition such as multiple sclerosis and you require complex care, we can provide the right level of support that adheres to your requirements, ensuring you’re safe and have everything you need whilst still living in your beloved home.

Short term home care support

For regular care calls throughout the week, visiting care is designed to fit around you and your timetable. You may not necessarily need support with getting in and out of bed or going to the toilet, but you may just need extra help to change the bed sheets or take your canine companion for a walk once a day. Whatever you need a helping hands with, we’ll enable you to live independently in your own home.

Intermittent long-term care

For round-the-clock care on a short-term basis, respite care is the ideal solution if your caregiver needs to take a break. From as little as three days all the way up to four weeks, we can provide consistent and professional care that will keep to the same routines that your regular caregiver provides. That way, you won’t have to worry that anything will change, with our carers seamlessly fitting into to your existing timetable.

Immediate start carers

On some occasions, we are unable to plan and prepare for certain situations that occur out of the blue; that’s where our team can support you with emergency care. Often having care in place on the same say as your enquiry, we’ll be with you to relieve any anxieties and ensure you have everything you need to continue living safely and comfortably at home until your situation returns to how it was before. And if you get used to having support from our kind carers, you may even choose to keep them as your care provider on a more permanent basis so that you and your loved ones have constant peace of mind that you’re in the very best hands.

Our carers in Cambridge

Melanie and her team of empathetic carers are dedicated to providing person-centred care across the city and the surrounding areas. Selected for their compassion and drive to help others, our Cambridge carers are put through their paces when they join us by undergoing a thorough selection and assessment process. Beginning with an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) and character references, new recruits receive training that is regularly updated by our team of in-house instructors. Modules consist of first aid, manual handling, safeguarding, personal care, as well as many others – with carers shadowing experienced team members before having their own customers to visit and build a relationship with.

All of our carer teams are required to complete regular refresher award winning training to ensure their knowledge is up-to-date and follows the latest industry standards, ensuring that you or a loved one receives the only the best care.

How to arrange care today

To discuss yours or a loved one’s care needs further, you can call our customer care specialists seven days a week. They’ll be able to advise you on the best care option for you and also arrange a home visit with branch manager Melanie to create your support plan and get to know you.
